Powerful laptop but not without flaws

Great computer - when it works.

Pros: very good speakers, display, and performance

Cons:
1. the trackpad is just terrible. i cant use it at all. have to use a mouse at all times.
2. the computer gets very hot (need a cooling fan)
3. My computer came with a flickering screen right out of the box. It seems to be a very common problem with lenovo y-50 and y-70's. here is a 15+ page thread on the lenovo forums of others having this problem. I sent it back to lenovo and my new one does not have this problem.

Overall:
Very nice computer with a few flaws. If you are on the fence about buying this laptop I would say go for it. and hope you dont get a flickering screen out of the box.

Best gaming laptop for the price

Best gaming laptop for the price. Plays most games on medium resolution with high/ultra custom settings. I got a refurbished one and I'm satisfied with the purchase. My boot time is about 10-20 seconds. Really can't beat that even though this may be a "hybrid sshd". Ended up getting the lenovo extended warranty after I heard that the display has a small chance of failing. I suggest doing that if you decide to purchase. So add 99.99 to your budget.

Unreliable and spent weeks in service status limbo

Great specs on this laptop. But mine (model 59440654 with the 960M nvidia card) failed after only after 3 weeks. THREE WEEKS! It stopped charging and would not power on at all. I sent it in for repairs (at least Lenovo covered shipping and handling through FedEx). Now I keep checking the repair status and seeing "Your PC is currently on hold due to a service parts shortage. Please check back periodically for further updates".

It's up to you if you want to deal with this. I wish I hadn't. I'll update this review if the service status changes.

UPDATE: 9/21/2015 - It's been 11 days since I shipped it back. Repair status is still "on hold due to a service parts shortage".

UPDATE: 10/5/2105 - I received the laptop back on 9/29 (which is exactly 21 days after I shipped it). Seems to be working well so far. They wiped the hard-drive (no explanation. Why do this to fix a hardware issue?) Fortunately I did not lose any data but I had to re-download and install Win10 (and all my other apps/games of course).
