I am beyond blown away by how good this little speaker is for the price, and for any purpose.

I got this through Amazon Vine, and it was pretty cheap, so wasn't expecting much. It's beyond wonderful. For watching videos, even listening to music, it's just wonderful, and the sound quality is superb. I got this because I have problems watching videos on my ipad2, the volume is never loud enough unless I cup my hand behind the speaker to force the sound forward. Boy does this do the trick. Perfect volume with this. I tried doing a video to show you the difference, watching a Harry Potter video, and while it was much better with the new speaker, it was hard to capture the difference on film. I then tried a song, with that you could REALLY tell on the video (in real life, both work very well, vids and music). The thing that shocked me with the music was HOW GOOD the music sounded.

I've reviewed two other iphone speakers on here, both VERY expensive (first one was almost 200 bucks, second was 350), that were horrible. HORRIBLE sound. And one of them cost over 300 bucks (again, thanks to Amazon Vine I didn't pay that). I don't use either one because they're horrible. This thing sounded amazing. I went through a bunch of different music, from folk to rock to classical and it all sounded great. Granted, if you're some music maestro you might still want thousand dollar speakers, but if you're just looking for something to amplify your ipad so you can actually hear the darn video, this is it. Interestingly, when I attached this to my iphone 4s, I think the iphone is louder than the ipad anyway, but for my iphone 4s the music was INCREDIBLY loud via the speaker, much louder than it comes out using this speaker with my ipad.Read more ›

It's not a loud speaker, but it is very user friendly

For years, I've been using various PC speakers to play my MP3 players, laptops, and other electronic devices through. I had a pair of labtec speakers back in the 90's to play my discman through. Yes, old-school. What always bothered me, though, was having two separate volume controls. I had to walk the delicate balancing act of increasing volume on both items to some sort of equilibrium, without using too much power from the device (leading to what seemed like higher battery drain) or too much from the speaker (leading to static noise).

Thus, when I saw this device, it seemed too good to be true. I thought, "surely it must have an internal battery that will wear out over time." Nope, it runs solely on AC power. Then I thought, "surely it requires some weird audio adapter." Nope, it uses a standard headphone plug. So I took the gamble and bought it.

If what you want is a simple speaker with no controls (not even a power switch) that you can plug into any normal headphone-style port, with enough volume to fill a normal-sized room (like a dorm room or living room), and you're not concerned about super-high audio quality or big bass tones, this is the speaker for you. It has a small form factor and footprint -- about the size of a spindle of 50 CD-R's, so if you have limited desk/counter space, it will serve you well. Again, it's not going to blow out the windows, and it's not going to satisfy audiophiles who spend hundreds of dollars on headphones. It will, however, serve to amplify your smartphone, mp3 player, laptop, or other standard audio device up to maximum volumes that are unlikely to hurt your ears.

One thing -- if you're not picky about the color, check the prices on the different colors of them. I didn't care what color mine was, so I looked and saw that the pink one was cheaper than the others -- ten dollars cheaper than the gray one at the time I bought it.

Decent sound from a tiny speaker

First, understand that this speaker has to be plugged into a power outlet. It then take its input from any device that has a headphone jack. The good aspect of this speaker is that it is small, favors the high frequencies but has a solid base. But don't expect this to sound like a big speaker. It sounds better than you might expect from a tiny speaker, but the sound is not great.
There are two things other than the sound, that bother me about this product. First, what is the purpose of this? Since you have to plug it into an outlet, it is not exactly portable. If you have to plug it in, why can't you just use a bigger system? Well, maybe you just like cute speakers. The other problem with this is that there is no dedicated volume control, so you must control the volume from the source device. If your mother yells at you to lower the volume, she will have to wait a few additional seconds for you to lower it, which might cost you your mother's freshly baked cake portion. Also, since this is only a single speaker, there is no stereo sound. All in all, you get what you pay for, but why not get a speaker pair?(Even Logitech offers a stereo pair for the same price with a volume control!) Or, spend a little more and get much better sound.

Small and lightweight, but versatile and with surprisingly good sound

I'm listening to it right now, playing some jazz off an Internet radio station through my smartphone. The sound is fine. It's not quite the depth of sound I get off the speaker combo for my desktop, but darn good considering this is a single speaker the size of a 10 ounce coffee mug. (Well, maybe 12 ounces.) There's good midrange and bass. The sound is sharp and has resonant depth.

This will have a variety of uses. It might be the Netbook of speakers - something small and lightweight that you can keep close at hand, using when it's convenient, and when you don't need or want a lot of power, size and weight. The sound is much better than my cellphone's own speakerphone, but I do need to confirm how it works with a two-way conversation.

Those traveling on business might find it useful, amplifying a laptop's speakers at a small presentation, or a smartphone under any number of scenarios. (Those who can't plug personal electronics like an iPod into their work computer systems for security reasons, might find this handy.) It's small and portable.

There are no controls. AC power cord in, data cord out, that's it. The instructions, such as they are, make reference to a power switch that's non-existent (you're supposed to turn it off before you disconnect the AC power cord.)
