i love this computer so much i want to marry it.

I absolutely LOVE this computer. it boots up SO fast. like in the blink of an eye. i actually dont mind restarting my computer when i have to because its so fast anyway. its SO thin and sexy, i can't even believe it. usually when i see 17in laptops i'm like, dude that thing is massive, why dont u just get a desktop. but this one is so sleek and subtle, u barely notice its there. my husband got the 15in version, and this 17in doesn't look excessively bigger. the outside gets fingerprint smudges real easily, but i can live with that. it does get warm, but i've never had a laptop that didn't get warm. i also normally delete all the crapware that comes preinstalled on new pc's, but most of the stuff that came with this msi are super handy. the software for the backlit keyboard is fun coz u can program 3 different colors and have yourself a nice little light show.

this model, the 607, is the only one right now that has the new 5th generation Broadwell processor.

if you don't think you'd be able to tell the difference between a Broadwell and a Haswell, i might suggest getting a different model that has a bigger SSD. i still LOVE this computer, but there are a ton of Windows8.1 programs that install directly to the SSD (C:/ drive), and "Click to Run" doesn't let you specify a different location (like your D:/ drive which is ~1TB. So if you're not careful, your 128GB C:/ SSD gets all crowded even though you still have 900GB in your D:/. I put all my games and videos on my D:/, but I keep Windows on my C:/, and it can get super fluffy. I had to set up hardlinks for some other programs that I moved after the fact (really simple, just google "mklink"). So just plan out how you're gonna use your SSD before you start installing your whole life onto this lovely, sexy beast of a machine.

Very good laptop. I used to be the type to not recommend laptops because of the compromises you are always going to be making but it seems like MSI makes no compromise. Legitimately, this is the best laptop on the market for this price, period. You will NOT top this unless you are gonna be paying $2700+ USD. Even if you pay 2700+, the other laptops won't be as thin and lightweight as this.

The screen is very good, non glossy. I can't comment on the color reproduction because that is one thing I don't know much about, but from playing games and spending a lot of time on this machine so far everything seems good. It is a standard 60hz \ 1080p display. On full brightness this isn't no BenQ or Dell display, but its bright enough that you won't complain about it.

The keyboard is very nice to type on. Made by Steelseries, the layout is very nice and comfortable. Has an almost full size number pad, the only thing is the 0 key is half size to make room for a full size arrow key layout. Has a dedicated Function key for all the various laptop specific buttons like keyboard back light, screen brightness, airplane mode, sound, even a button for turning off the touch pad.

Touch pad is very good in my opinion. Has scrolling gestures (similar to a Macbook). The texture is hit or miss, personally I love the slightly gritty feel of the pad, but a friend did not like it as much. it almost feels like a VERY VERY high grit sand paper. The beveled edge along the rim of the touch pad is VERY sexy.

Sound is decent. Not very much bass but thats to be expected. I uninstalled the custom driver because I felt they were unnecessary. More on that later.

It works.
It runs super hot when gaming which makes me nervous but it seems to be designed that way. A good machine that runs anything I throw at it on pretty high settings.
