This Piece of Art Doesn't Deserve Less than 4 Stars

I love this product. In fact I ordered it the day it was available. And I must say after receiving it, this computer has amazing specs. I hear people complaining about the textured track pad being 'annoying' but frankly if you're into gaming (I.E. THE ONLY REASON YOU'D BE PURCHASING A GAMING LAPTOP) you will love it. The textured track pad makes any kind of mouse movement feel much more responsive than on any other device I've EVER used. When it comes to gaming, for a laptop, it's hard to get much better for this price. I'm tired of people comparing gaming laptops to 2 year old custom PCs... They are completely different beasts. So be realistic and stop comparing apples to oranges. I've been able to play every game I have on ultra settings and still get over 60 fps which let's face it, is not really noticeable above that. Battery power is not an issue if you use common sense and switch performance modes away from sport to comfort or even green when you're unplugged from the wall. The included software is incredibly impressive. I mean who doesn't want to give certain apps more of a claim to bandwidth than others? In my opinion, this is an amazing rig for the money and MSI has a guaranteed repeat customer with me.

BSOD issues after extensive use.

You should be wary of this model with the 5700HQ processor. After extensive use, you frequently get a BSOD and a machine_check_exception. The specs are good, but the BSOD is a huge issue. I thought it was just my model but other people have complained about the same thing. Google it for more info. Hopefully they fix this issue. Most "fixes" online involve turning off key components of the processor, making the laptop lose value.

I'm really happy with this purchase, it's a top quality product, really fast startup, awesome performance, great screen and battery last 2 hours.

I only have some issues with the backspace key, it make some sticky sounds and also I wish the touchpad has more gestures.

Love it so far...

I have been using an Alienware and I had high expectations from MSI when getting this new laptop. So far, it appears to deliver great performance at a comparatively cheaper price.

Pros:
- I was looking at Asus ROG and this one at this price range, and the i7 5700HQ did it for me.
- Windows 10 is good, boots in <10 seconds.
- I have only played FIFA 16 so far and the graphics is flawless.
- The monitor is great, not glossy, can be seen from any angle and in daylight.
- I am using the stock components right now, but the laptop seems good for upgrading and I will probably install extra RAM and SSD's in future.

Minor cons:
- Audio is OK. Could have been better.
- There are a few bloatware installed by MSI and takes ages to start the first time after purchase. but it doesn't seem to affect the performance much.
- Keyboard is great but I don't like the placement of home, end and delete keys. Specially, you need to hold function key to use home and end keys unless you turn off num pad and it is affecting my productivity. Also it doesn't have the menu key. Steelseries is fancy but I don't really use the back light.

Superb Laptop. Worth the price.

First off, I'll say if you can afford the models with the 970M, then get one of those. For the games I play, the 960M is more than sufficient and I couldn't justify the extra $200 but the 970M is a different beast. Also, if you plan on installing an SSD, make sure you have a 32GB pen drive. 16GB isn't enough and my 64GB pen drive wasn't detected by the MSI BurnRecovery software to create a bootable USB. (Check the forums, some 64 GB drives work). After the PC boots up for the first time, let it download updates and then Restart (it did not prompt me to do this). My Nvidia graphics card wasn't working until I did this. Lastly, the battery will not charge up to 100% unless you let it dip below 95% and then charge it. This is not a fault with the battery. It's to save those needless 95% -> 100% charges.

Pros:
- Superb specs
- Screen is amazing once you tweak the settings
- Great keyboard quality
- Dual fans with button control is a nice touch
- Quite fast even without SSD
- Surprisingly light for a gaming laptop
- Priced quite fairly

Major Cons:
- Poor hinge quality. This is the big one. It's what stopped me from giving 5 stars. The hinges feel a bit flimsy, and are positioned right at the outer edges of the laptop (Instead of being mounted slightly inside like the ASUS GL551). Now, this won't be a problem if you keep it on a desk, but if you're carrying it about in a bag, then treat it like glass. Hinge designs like this one make it difficult to store in a bag vertically because the entire weight of the laptop is on the bottom hinge edge and it doesn't help that it is flimsy to start off with. Make sure the bottom of your bag is soft or get a bag where you can store it with horizontally.

Good Purchase

My first gaming laptop and first MSI product. My Asus laptop became obsolete and one of the RAM chips failed. I gave it with a new chip set to my Daughter-in-law for occasional use. The reason I bought a gaming laptop is I was looking for high end performance. My last laptop was OK, dependable but the audio was tinny, the keyboard OK but not great and so on. I decided to purchase a more expensive laptop to play the occasional video game but more importantly, to provide better audio, keyboard and larger screen.

I looked at the Asus ROG laptops but for the money, they didn't offer what MSI laptops offered, more RAM, larger memory and more importantly, a new next gen processor.

I picked the Apache because it's an update from an earlier MSI model that got great reviews. The only issues reported where poor cooling and a few other minor issues. When I received the Apache, I was pleasantly surprised on the lack of crapware. I think I uninstalled the included Antivirus and went with my favorite, Avast. I found the speakers to be a big improvement. Keep in mind, their not going to perform like a dedicated surround sound system but their above average. A turbo button controls internal cooling fans so if your game on, hit the turbo button. The fans are somewhat loud when on turbo but not so much to affect game play. The Apache came with Windows 10 which I haven't decided if I like it or not. I also liked the outside aluminum case, DVD player, the clear, crisp screen resolution and the more than adequate number of USB and HDMI ports.
