Good Specs, Good Price, Tough luck

I have purchased the computer directly from XOTIC-PC (which are the ones selling this through amazon here as well).
The computer Specs are GREAT.
The price is also GREAT.
so why the 3 stars?

First of all, and most important the IPS screen version of this computer seems to have a design flaw, causing the HDMI cable not to work (relevance: March 2015). This does not get picked up by the XOTIC-PC or sager Quality control and thus the computer gets shipped. - This might be an issue that has already been solved, but if you bought this and ended up seeing this problem, I hope you found this thread. There is a solution (taking the computer back cover off) - and more information can be found on this forum post which I started a few months back (linked at the end of the review). To that extent- simply make sure that this issue was solved before buying the new system.

But these things happen... The reason for the threestars are due to the availability of the support. XOTIC-PC are extremely highly rated for their computers and prices since they simply offer good services and excellent computers- that is what the three stars are for. EDIT: I have also since been contacted by the head of the support team to try and mitigate the problems I have been running into with the return process. However, most the reviews I now retroactively find online are of people who get a fully functioning computer (do as I did and check it out on google). I sadly had to go through support ,and refund for this specific computer. The support team is extremely professional and very nice. yet the availability and the length of the process ensured that I was "computerless" for the best part of 3 months.Read more ›

A great gaming laptop!!!

This review does not apply to this particular version. I bought the Sager NP8651 directly from Xotic PC. Somewhat slow in arriving but good customer service and was not too long before I got it.
My configuration:
Intel i7, 128 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M, Windows 8.1 installed. I got a different screen than the one listed on this particular webpage (the 4K Panasonic IGZO panel, 60 Hz refresh rate). It cost me about 1800$ (main portion of the extra money was for the 4K screen).

The screen is great in terms of clarity and color reproduction but it is a glossy screen so there is some glare (some people may not like the glare but for the most part it is a great display). Retrospectively 4K is overkill for a 15.6 inch screen so I would advice people to go for a 1080p IPS display instead.

Now the reason for the 5 star rating - BLAZINGLY FAST! Runs pretty much any game currently available at high to very high settings with >40 FPS. Very impressive for a laptop. Build quality feels solid (mostly metal) and does not feel flimsy at all, of course this is no Mac. There is little bloatware. Pretty light around 5.2 lbs, battery life averages around 3-4 hours with regular work.

A few minor complaints, Sager could do well to try to make it cosmetically a little more appealing, as it currently is it is a pretty generic and bland design. Most people may not care about this and look only for performance.

Overall not perfect but pretty close!

it worked fine for two days then went dark again

My Sager laptop has given me nothing but grief. After 4 months the screen went completely dark. I shipped it to Sager who said it was just an lcd cable, which they changed. After getting it back, it worked fine for two days then went dark again. They're now saying they believe the screen may be defective. I will NEVER buy a Sager computer again. I also have a Dell laptop which has worked faultlessly for the past 6 years, whereas the Sager laptop never even made it 5 months.
