Simple protection is better. We use notebooks, standard keyboards, Macbook Pro17 and ipads around the office and at home and couldn't find a simple lap platform that offered the performance and mobility we need at a fair price. We don't like the "cooling" decks that have fans (what's the point?) or speakers (really...this is a tray, not a stereo), but we do like the idea of protecting our gonads from excessive heat (just in case). The Grifiti Deck 17 Laptop Lap Desk and Small Keyboard Platform does all that you need with a simple design: A rigid, lightweight aluminum plate sandwiched in soft non-skid textured neoprene. The plate provides the support you need. The grippy neoprene has great traction to keep your notebook or ipad in place and provides an effective insulation layer against toasty hot laptops. You won't get any nasty laptop skin burns and deep fried gonads when you properly use our Grifiti Deck. .At 17 inches x 12inches x 0.25 inches and 2.5 lb it's not really a mobile user product but it's great for home and the office.

Fabric wears off

Hey guys, I really like this product, no doubt, its great. It does what it is supposed to do, feels comfortable, its light, has grip, protects your nads, and is recommended for all computers with fans on the bottoms to protect from overheating (and does a good job at it). Good stuff, I would have easily given them 5 stars.

However comma:

A few months into use the fabric starts to rub off. Today, 10 months later, its aggravating how much it peeled off and how the little neoprene fabric sticks to desks and peels off leaving a small mess here and there. I am one of those guys who babies their stuff, so it was subjected to less than average wear and tear in the time I have had it.

If a more durable fabric/method/something would be used to make this product more rugged, I would give it a 5 stars.

Again, its a great product, I like it a lot, I highly encourage you (the reader) to purchase it and try it out. I just expected a little bit more in the durability/ruggedness/longevity department.

clean, modern design

I've been looking for a lap desk for a couple of years. The available options have always seemed too bulky or over-designed. The 17" Grifiti Deck offers a great alternative. It is simple, yet truly functional; it is sturdy, yet light. I can leave it laying about without creating a sense of clutter. In short, it looks good and does what a lap desk should.

Fits my Alienware m17x r3 perfectly

Bought this for my Alienware m17x r3 and what do you know it fits PERFECTLY. Seems like they made it just for it honestly. It blocks about 95% of the heat generated from my m17x to my lap. Max temps for my CPU are 77 celcius and GPU is 65 celcius. Never gets any higher than that with any game I play. I recommend this product 1000%.

This neoprene stretches way too easily

I bought this product to get my large mac book off of my lap, at first the product was great. But after carrying it around for a while the corners are starting to curl up and the metal inside is starting to rub away at the stretchy neoprene. The product does keep the heat off of my thighs however after a good game of Civilization it starts to warm up. Good product while it lasted. I think i've owned it for three months now.

PERFECT for rack-mount keyboards

I bought this to use as a keyboard platform/wrist wrest for my much-loved mechanical Compaq compact rackmount keyboard with trackball. It enables me to sit in any position whatsoever with my keyboard- cross-legged, half reclining, whatever (I'm using it to write this). The surface is so non-skid I can move around at will, tilt the keyboard almost vertically, at right angles, it doesn't budge a fraction of an inch on the deck. And since it's covered with soft, non-conductive rubber, it protects the wires and contacts on the posterior of the keyboard (normally mounted in a rigid tray). The deck is exactly the length and width of my keyboard, looks great too. Wafer thin, lightweight, yet sturdy, and washable. And what a bargain! I also bought the 15 inch version for my clicky Cherry mini keyboard w/ trackball (so small hard to balance on my lap). Typing bliss, love it!

The Grifiti deck is one of those products you can't believe you (or others before Grifiti)didn't come up with. It's a simple product - sits between your body and your laptop - that creates an instant workspace. It's sturdy and large enough to work on but not so big that it is uncomfortable or restricting. A friend of mine that knows these things said the materials and assembly are high quality. I'd recommend this product for anyone that uses a(ny) laptop anywhere but on a desk.

Highly Portable Lap Desk

I bought this to use with my 17" HP dv7 Laptop. The laptop has an extended battery with a bump that was uncomfortable. (Apart from the bump this laptop is excellent, it has coolsense technology and truly would not require a pad. However, the battery time is well worth the bump!) This Lap Desk fits beautifully into a suitcase or laptop bag and takes up only slightly more space than my laptop. It feels sturdy, is well made, and is an excellent value.
