Must have item for Toshiba laptop!!!!!

I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase!! The cord that comes standard with the Toshiba Satellite laptop I have is crap, and the power plug sticks out nearly 3-4" and is in constant danger if getting bumped or worse, could break the internal plug-in of the laptop. THIS IS A MUST NEEDED ITEM!!!! With the angled plug the danger of this ever damaging the plug-in is much less of a fear of mine now!!! DON'T HESITATE BUY THIS ITEM IMMEDIATELY, IF YOU OWN A TOSHIBA SATELLITE LAPTOP!!! WORKS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!

Great unit, long cords.

I ordered this to replace my original Toshiba power supply. I only gave it 4 stars because I had to send the first one back because it had stopped working after a day. Overall the unit has good qality cables, and they are long. I also like the 90 degree bend on the laptop plug. Takes the stress off. Returning the bad one was a snap, easy with no hassles and no cost to me.

Worked as Advertised

Bought as replacement of a failing OEM Toshiba power supply. Cord has ample length and the barrel jack has a sturdy 90 degree angle to the cord which takes a lot of stress off the area that failed with the OEM power supply. The unit stays lukewarm to the touch even when the laptop is running all of the time.

Great Buy!

This charger works great with my Toshiba Satellite L455 S5000. The tip fits perfectly and I prefer the angled tip versus the straight tip that came with the stock charger. I have had it plugged in for a few hours and it has not even gotten warm let alone overheated. I am thoroughly satisfied so far! Now lets see how long it will last...

Adapter for the Toshiba Laptop

So far so good. I purchased the original Toshiba type prior to this one and it only lasted 2 weeks. I decided to try this one instead. I like that it has the 3 prongs - my last 2 only had 2 prongs and everytime plugged it in, it sparked. So far I haven't had any problems with it.

A weak spot

The delivery is fast, one day ahead of schedule and the adapter works right out of the box. Strangely, there is a weak spot on the bottom side, specifically the upper left corner near where the adapter cord originates, discovered by accident while trying to feel if the adapter is over-heated. Well, it is not, in fact, pretty cool to the touch. I have found, however, that by pressing this weak spot, the power gets turned off, but only briefly. It is a problem when the laptop is on AC alone, because the laptop also shuts down requiring a re-boot. The vendor's policy is not to replace but to refund. Would have been nice to get a replacement. Since it otherwise seems to work well - if I refrain from touching the weak spot, I have decided to keep it, for now anyway.

Update 5/2/2013: After more than a week of daily use, the adapter continues to perform well. It is a 65-watt charger, perfect for my Toshiba Protege. The L-shaped connector is a big plus, with a tight fit too, so no more popping out problems as the original Toshiba adapter (the reason why I ordered this one in the first place). The vendor also left a message offering a replacement. This is quite something, obviously a company looking out for its customers. I'll now upgrade the rating from 3 to a well-deserved 5 stars.

Update 5/4/2013: Amazingly, the replacement arrived today. This one is perfect, no weak spots. It simply works, much better than the Toshiba original, too.

Update 9/5/2013: After 4 months, it is still working fine. Great adapter!

Built-in overvoltage protection, large capacitors

This is an excellent value. High quality. Here's why: 1. The cylinder in the cord is an overvoltage protector...that's surge protection which is common when plugging things in due to electrostatic discharge. Some power supplies do not have this. It's there to protect the power supply. 2. This has a decent capacitor in it. The LED stays on for several seconds after unplugging. This tells me that there's a good long "smoothing effect" on the DC output voltage....kind of acts like a 5 second UPS in case there's any dirty power coming in through your line. I used to live in an area with dirty or brown power....which just means that there's lots of micro outages, which is hard on electronics. Capacitors act like little batteries to boost the DC voltage when the incoming voltage suffers micro outages. The rectifiers that convert AC to DC do not smooth this out; they just dip in output voltage. A capacitor will keep it high and not allow it to dip for anywhere from a micro second to several seconds, depending on it's size. This power supply looks like it has a decent cap in it. Disclaimer: I did not do a tear-down of this device. I am an electrical engineer, but I have not verified my judgement with testing. It is possible that a design can fake what I have noticed by looking at this device and watching the operation. I have used it, however, and I am highly satisfied in what I got for the price.
