I bought this laptop about a week ago in a store as opposed to online because I wanted it fast. I say, for the price, it's a pretty good deal. I have to warn you though, if you're expecting a high end, quality built laptop, you should probably look elsewhere and shell about a few more bucks. But if you're looking for something just to do basic stuff like surf the web, or type notes/papers for school, then this will serve you well.

THE GOOD:

-The Audio: This laptop comes with Beats Audio, front facing speakers, and they are NICE! Loud and full, I find myself not having to even turn them up half way to get a full sound. Best speakers I've used on a laptop to date!

- i7 chip. The Intel 7 chip is the fastest out at the time of this review, and because of that, most computers that have it are quite expensive, so finding one for under 600 bucks is a great deal. The computer is fast in most regards, booting up, opening apps and webpages, downloads and uploads are all pretty snappy, like I said, I only have been using it for a week, it could slow down as time goes on, but for now, it's great.

-Screen/resolution. The screen is fantastic, I must say. It's a little over 15 inches which I think is a nice sweet spot, anything over that makes not only the screen bigger, but the keyboard too (in order to accommodate closing it) and that can make the laptop a bit large. Going smaller, and I find watching media on it not quite as pleasant. 15 in is the perfect size to me. And the resolution is very nice with accurate colors.

-Lightweight. The laptop is very lightweight (not as much as an ultrabook though) and you won't mind carrying it around all day.

THE BAD:

-Kinda cheap feeling. The computer is made from plastic and you can tell.

This is a great laptop for the price. The i7 processor is great. I use this mainly for taking notes at school and browsing the internet. The beats audio speakers are nice and provide good sound. It runs Windows 8.1 which takes some getting used to if you have never used it before but it nice when you figure it out.

I love everything about this laptop except for the screen resolution. A previous reviewer said that it was great with accurate colors. Unless I got a defective computer, I have to completely disagree. The coloring was so weird when I got the computer. I spent hours tweaking the settings, and they're still not right. Images appear grainy and oddly colored on this screen when they look fine on my other devices. You won't really notice it in day-to-day tasks, but it makes editing images really tough. I would not recommend this computer for anyone who works with Photoshop or other graphics software.

But if you don't do that, this computer is great. I love the feel of the keys, and the computer is really light. The battery seems decent, but I haven't used it away from home yet as I work from home on the computer. I was a little frustrated with Windows 8.1 to begin with since I was previously running on Windows 7, but I don't mind it now. I've mostly used the computer for everyday tasks on the Internet, and it seems to be quick and do the job well.

Edit: I reduced my rating my a star because when I tried to watch DVDs on this computer, it was impossible. I don't know if it was the computer itself or the program that came pre-installed, but it's like the computer was too slow to play the DVD (and I tried with several movies). That shouldn't happen given the computer's specs. The movies were twitchy and nearly impossible to watch. I had to switch over to my old computer (the one this one replaced), and then they worked fine. On this computer, I couldn't even choose a different program aside from the PowerDVD, and that just didn't work. When I did watch movies on it via the Internet, the coloring was so poor that it didn't give as great of an experience.

Given my complaints, I wouldn't recommend this computer. It's fine for everyday tasks, and it's a comfortable, slim computer, but I think my money would have been better spent on something else.

I purchased this for my wife, replacing a relatively old model Dell desktop running Windows 7. She loves it - even though it runs Windows 8.1, which has been a bit of a learning curve.

I foolishly bought a netbook several years back, also HP, and it's probably one of my most regrettable purchases. Underpowered and loaded with bloatware that netbook has never been useful and is on its last legs (I'll probably try a last ditch attempt to get some use out of it by loading Linux on it).

Fortunately this new laptop somewhat makes up for it and salvages my impression of HP. The i7 processor makes this a reasonably peppy laptop, although it's unlikely it will ever be used for anything too extensive like gaming, and it has pretty good specs and features for the price. My wife likes the keyboard and has enjoyed the mobility a true laptop provides, working wirelessly around the house.

We checked the specs and prices of several brands of laptops and thought this was a good bargain for everything you get. I would definitely recommend it.

good machine for the price, delivery was excellent, only downside was that there was no description of keyboard and when we purchased it we realized it did not have a backlit keyboard, otherwise, 5 star
