Description/Picture are misleading

The description on this page is obviously weirdly wrong, but the picture itself is also misleading. It looks like it's taken from Pyle's site, and is a shot of a newer model -- the model I received is older, flimsier, and had more issues, including a tightening screw that stripped itself after two weeks of use. The stand is very light and portable, but without this part, very difficult to use. I've contact Pyle for replacement parts.

Adjustable stand for notebook computers

Having seen the higher priced stands personally, this much less expensive stand meets and fits the bill. It easily raises to a height that, myself being 6'2'' tall, I do not have to bend over to use it. Also, it get so low that sitting on an average chair is perfect height. It comes apart for travel or storage.
Now the downside of it is this. The top unit that holds the computer does not adjust for angles. Also the lock mechanism that holds it on the shaft is bulky and as such for easy travel. Since I don't use it for travel, it's OK. Secondly, the top of the stand is smooth formica type of covering which can easily make your notebook fall off. I placed a rubber shelf padding material on it that really holds the computer from slippng. But other than these two things, for being one third the price of the others, it's a great stand, useful for its purpose and I like it.

Sturdy Tri-Pod

When I opened the box, I was impressed with the thick and sturdy tri-pod legs. I am using this as a portable laptop/projector stand for mobile presentations. The platform will hold my laptop and projector at the same time, which is why I bought it. Since the legs are thick and adjustable, you don't have to worry too much about it getting bumped and falling over.... unless someone tackles it.

The thing I don't like about it is the plastic support brackets that mount the platform to the tri-pod. They snapped in half after about 4 uses. After I put away the laptop and projector away, I would tilt the platform to the side and fold the legs for storage. I loosened the wingnuts enough to allow it to to tilt and leaned it against a wall. It slipped and hit the ground, causing the plastic to "snap" with the force of the impact. I tried gluing it back together with JB WELD, but even that did not hold. Finally, I went to a home improvement store and bought 2 conduit hangers, a couple wingnuts, and two steel support brackets with pre-drilled holes. I drilled two small holes in between the holes already on the platform and secured it to the conduit hangers and brackets. Now it works even better and is more sturdy.

If you are using the original plastic brackets, be very careful not to drop it. If you are tilting and adjusting the platform, make sure you loosen it completely to not add stress to the brackets.

Works fine for me

I was a little hesitant after reading the mixed reviews on this product. I'm wondering now if Pile-Pro may have changed the design slightly to fix a few things.

Overall its a very sturdy tripod. That said, if its not set up properly, it has the potential to dump your laptop. The platform piece has the ability to rotate forward and back, which makes it a bit difficult to get perfectly level. To keep it from rotating, you crank down on two wing nuts under the platform. One bad thing about the design there are other wing nuts in the same area that attach the platform to the tripod. If these nuts aren't facing exactly the correct direction, they interfere with the wing nuts that keep the platform from rotating. If you don't get these tightened all the way down, the platform can rotate, and your laptop takes a trip.

All and all though its very sturdy and I feel save putting a laptop on it. I've had mine at about chest level and it was still stable.

Other reviews I read stated the platform was a combo of wood and plastic. Mine appears to be all plastic.

Deceptive photo

This stand can only operate flat and horizontal. It's high quality, but the tabletop itself is not. Plastic banding around the edge is gapped, wood is chipped, laminate covering is poor quality. If you want something of quality that can be adjusted other than just for height, then pass it by. Also, the one I received had no screws to mount the PLASTIC bracket onto the bottom of the cheaply covered particleboard. My faith in Pyle products just fell through the floor.

not worth it

This thing is pretty cheaply made. It certainly works as a computer stand, but you might want to spend the extra money on something decent. A few months after I bought mine the plastic hub that the legs are attached to broke just from using it the way it's designed to be used. Also, I pretty much immediately bent the main pipe just by tightening the fastener on the table part a little too much.

stand great -- top usless

I got this product to hold my computer for tethered shooting. When the box arrived I pulled out the top. It was scratch and dented. I maybe could of lived with this but .... when I tried to attached the top the screw did not match the holes in the top. I call and the store was closed on fridays. I then emailed. No response yet. The stand itself it good. I'll have to custom make a top. I would not recommend this product unless you are willing to create your own top.
