Well organized, but small

This item is Targus Revolution 2 14-inch Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Briefcase. Targus makes two models of the Revolution, and the title on this item is unclear on which one: This is the 14" model.

The briefcase measures 4.5" x 14" x 12" not including the handles. It has a very pleasant, professional design. It includes two compartments. A front compartment for your "stuff" and a rear compartment dedicated for a laptop computer.

When you go through security at an airport, you can unzip a larger zipper that will cause the case to open up in a clamshell fashion so that the laptop can be x-rayed separately without removing it from the case. The case also has a strap on the bottom that will allow you to attach it to the handle on your rolling suitcase.

The front compartment has a series of small pockets to hold cellular phones, wallets, business cards, SD cards, USB memory sticks, and two netted pockets to hold wires or other items. The rear compartment is designed to hold a laptop and is padded at the bottom and on either side.

Unfortunately, it was too small for my needs. I like to carry my wallet, sunglases, prescription eyeglasses, two cellular phones, digital camera, charger, flashlight, backup battery charger, cables, and USB Hard Drive. With all these things packed into the main compartment in the front, It was extremely difficult to zip up and difficult to get access to some things without pulling everything out, and there was no room for my noise cancelling headphones (which I like to take on flights). I could have easily put some of these things into the laptop compartment, but then there wouldn't be room for my laptop.

Having said that: If you carry one or two fewer items than I do, this bag might be perfect for you. But, I apparently need three compartments.

computer case

I bought this case to replace an old Targus case that the zippers finally gave out on. This case is super light weight, but a little on the small side compared to what I was used to. My Dell Inspiron 640m fits perfectly in the computer compartment. I wanted the separate compartment for my iPad, but I keep it in it's own case, so both don't fit in the compartment. All of the little compartments seem great, but most things don't fit. It has made be pare down the paper I carry with me, which is a good thing. I have not used it at the airport yet, but that will be great not to have to take out the computer. I would purchase this case again, but if they had a case with one more paper file compartment, that would be ideal.

Decent case, but the shoulder strap could stand to be longer.

Overall, this accommodates a Dell Precision M4800 quite well. Laptop insertion and removal is easy, and as much as I despise the TSA, having the TSA-ready top zipper is nice for frequent flyers trying to get through security quickly. The smaller compartment is big enough to hold pens, documents, large smartphones etc. (I haven't tried any tablets yet). It's a bit tight for the power bricks that come with the M4800, but that's pretty common unless you get a ginormous laptop case.

My only real complaint is the shoulder strap. I like being able to sling a shoulder strap diagonally across my chest, and I'm quite a bit bigger around my upper chest than most people. With the length maxed out on this strap,it still feels tight. Mind you, it's a well-constructed strap: the attachment clips are nice, flat-hook clips that won't twist the wrong way or get the strap itself bound up. It's just a bit short.
