I've had this computer for about a month now and am very pleased with its performance. I've always bought Toshibas, ever since my first one was dropped from a height of over six feet three times and still worked(it had their impact resistant hard drive in it). This laptop is beautiful though a bit heavy since it's the 17" screen model. I don't mind the weight since I mainly use it at home. I love the backlit keys, though I bought a keyboard protector(highly recommend that) so the light is a little dimmed. The keyboard is very smooth and easy to type with. My only negative is that the metal the casing is made from has kind of sharp edges. I actually took a nail file and sanded the points down a bit. My cats love to scratch their chins on it though. Oh and having Windows 7 on it with an option to load Windows 8 is very nice, it was one of the selling points for me.

Could not be more pleased. Works great, looks awesome (brushed gold is VERY muted, looks more like brushed nickel) and is amazingly light and comfortable to use. Looking forward to using it for a long time. Was a little leery of purchasing a computer without in-person support, but no worries. You will never find a happier customer.

Received the Toshiba S70 a few days ago & am overall happy.

The only cons I see so far are the non dedicated "f keys" I've become accustom to & an article I've read saying the hard drive is not user replaceable. I've been a satisfied Toshiba customer for many years as I've been very happy with their build quality & ease of access to the components should I need/want to change them out.

With that being said, this laptop appears to be quiet & quite responsive & am satisfied with the purchase.

Bought it to create a virtual lab to take a Pen-testing class. Needed a strong processor, lots of RAM, and a nice display, and a Windows 7 OS. I found all this in this laptop, and I am merrily on my way. I run this box pretty hard with Vmware workstation running up to four virtual sessions, and it is as stable as a rock. Wireless connectivity is great, and I enjoy the illuminated keyboard when studying early in the morning.

This is a pretty good laptop and the specs are quite good for those that need some power. I would say that my least favorite thing about this laptop is the screen. It appears that the newer Toshiba Satellite laptops have funky screens. What I mean by this is that you have to be viewing the screen from one very specific angle or the quality of what you see on the screen starts to fade, darken or become obscure. If you are looking at the screen from an angle that is too high or low the clarity and quality of the picture starts to diminish. It's a bit bothersome when you are working on your lap and slouch or sit up. This means whenever you re-position yourself you definitely have to readjust the screen as well. It feels reasonably light for a laptop that has a 17.3" screen.

I have an older Toshiba Satellite laptop that is about four years old. Although it is not have a Full HD screen I think the consistency of the screen images looks better. My older Toshiba laptop is a lot heavier but it is apparent that it is a sturdier machine.

I can't attest to the longevity of this laptop since I had to return it for a defective Blu-Ray player. It sounded like a chainsaw in the distance when I started to use it to install software. I won't take off points for this as I know that sometimes unforeseen problems present themselves. However, I couldn't easily exchange it. I had to go through the process of returning it for a refund and then wait for my funds to be available in order to buy it again. So I went another route and purchased something else. I must admit that the screen quality falls a bit short. The colors are dull and left me unimpressed. I think this laptop is a bit overpriced for what it is.

Very disappointed that it will not run Photoshop without crashing the display driver. What is even more disturbing is that Toshiba support says that there is nothing that they will do to fix it. The wireless also constantly disconnects and I have to go in and reconnect at least 12 times a day. Basically I spent $1200 on a computer that I can't use to do my work.

I needed to buy a new laptop last fall; my old HP Pavilion was getting long in the tooth. I was interested in a 'portable desktop' rather than a lightweight laptop; furthermore, I wanted an 1920x1080 display (like the HP), Win7 installed, and as much memory as I could get in the system. The ability to play games on it was a plus. The Toshiba seemed to be a perfect fit.

Instead, I am now budgeting for a new laptop. Here are the issues.

-- The WiFi hardware + drivers are flaky as hell. I get wildly inconsistent speeds and frequent page hangs while doing web browsing -- while my desktop system, located just a few feet away and with identical OS/browser/security software, works smoothly and quickly. Once every day or two, the wireless adapter simply stops working. It shows itself still connected to my router, but there is no internet access. If I try to troubleshoot or to manually disable and re-enable the wireless adapter, it doesn't respond (i.e., doesn't disable or re-enable). This forces me to shut down the laptop -- which then almost always hangs in the 'Shutting down" mode. When I force-power it down, then reboot, this wireless adapter is now, in fact, disabled, and I can re-enable it and connect again. But I go through this several times each week. Again, as noted, my desktop never has these problems.

-- The laptop -- despite the memory and the Radeon graphics card -- is unable to run, say, XCOM: Enemy Within. I boot up the game (with texture and effects on 'Low', and the other graphics settings on 'Medium') and start playing. I can hear the fan kick on, and then step up a notch more after a few seconds. If I start playing, then within 5 minutes the laptop overheats and simply goes dead, i.e., an instant power shutoff with no clean shut down.
