Verified Purchase

This hard drive converter worked great. I would definitely recommend to anyone needing to transfer data from old HDD to new computer. It worked on my windows 8 device with 3.0 USB ports (2.0 compatible). It also worked with a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB hard drive (not only SATA). No software or drivers needed. The computer reads it basically like a flash drive.

Speed
The speed of the data transfer may depend on the computer, but here is what mine did. It copied about 14 GB of data (basically all pictures) in less than 10 minutes. I was very happy with that speed.

Price
You absolutely can't compete with the $8 price. Best buy sells the cheapest at about $50 in store. I would much rather spend the $8 for maybe just a tad longer conversion time. Other companies charge ridiculously per hour to use data transfer equipment.

Size
This device is super small and portable. The cord is about 16 in. You only need to plug it into your computer for data transfer and power.
