Buyer Beware...

This product works great as far as doing what it's supposed to do! HOWEVER, if you are a Macbook Pro "Retina" owner it will scratch your screen. I have had my SpiShutter for a week and it has already caused damage to the black border of my screen. The magnetic strip although thin and barely noticeable is somewhat abrasive. SpiShutter gives you the impression that you can just slide it easily, but, the magnetic strip is strong which in part causes a stripping effect on your screen's outermost coating. Picture "sandpaper" rubbing across your screen; although exaggerated this is the effect it has over a short period of time. My suggestion would be to have a screen protector, and then you can use a SpiShutter. Buyer beware...

Okay, it's a plastic magnetic thingy that covers your camera

Why is it so expensive?
25$ for something that comes in a black envelope, looking like a creepy postcard, that at first I couldn't even figure out what it was. Yes, it covers your camera and allows the computer to close evenly and doesn't leave behind sticky residue like … well, stickers.

But let's be honest, it costs like 18 cents to manufacture.

Expensive but Elegant and Durable Solution

I've tried a few methods to cover the iSight camera on my Macbook Pro, from covering with tape to some of cheap plastic devices that you have to attach with adhesive. Apart from being messy and unsightly, these methods interfere with normal opening and closing of the laptop. While more expensive than I would have liked, the SpiShutter is truly and elegant and effective solution.

It is a thin and durable magnetic strip that attaches cleanly and easily, with a textured matte coating that makes it easy to slide it from side to side, revealing the camera when desired through an opening in the middle, or covering the camera when not in use. Best of all, it is nearly invisible when applied, and lets me open and close the laptop normally.

My only complaint is there is a large, cheesy logo printed on it. But thankfully it is only printed on one side, so it was a simple matter of flipping the strip around to hide the logo.

Overall, I'm very pleased to have found a simple and effective way to provide peace of mind without diminishing the aesthetics and functionality of my MacBook Pro.

Exactly what i was looking for, i was a little confused about how it would work but once i got it and put it on works like a charm. It is a thin piece of metal that is magnetized and sticks right to your screen, you cover the camera by moving the entire piece left or right, very simple to use, some reviews i read said the metal feels cheap or flimsy, i think its a good thickness that doesn't effect the macbook when it closes, and it feels like it will stay on no problem, had a little trouble getting it off, its tricky getting your fingernail under the piece to take it off but once you do it comes right off. Also the piece of metal is somewhat of a flat lighter black, it still blends in with the macbook and is almost unnoticeable when you look at it depending on the room lighting. I hardly use my camera so i like the fact i can just leave it on, forget about it and not worry about being watched because if you look into how hackers hack into your camera, its a lot easier than you think.

Bout time some privacy is available for Mac Webcams!

I bought this from the developers website one for my rMbp and 27 inch iMac. It does a great job blocking the cam however the one on the laptop if you take it off it starts to warp. This doesn't hinder it's ability but questions the quality of durability.

I would recommend this to any friend in place of sticking a tape over the webcam which can be counterintuitive.

Brilliant and discreet design!

I got mine couple weeks ago.
I absolutely love it.
It's very simple to slide it back and forth, so the ease of use is brilliant.
It snaps easily to the screen and it's so discreet you barely even notice it.
It doesn't scratch the screen, even if it's dirty (which mine is 99% of the time).
I would recommend this for everyone concerned for their own privacy.
The days of using sticky tape with the mess it leaves and the time it takes are finally over for me.
