Does Indeed Fit 17.3" Laptops (Alienware M17xR3)

I have an Alienware M17xR3, and at first I though 17.3" would kind of push the limit that this stand would support... but after some adjustments, this really does fit 17" screen laptops.

I have the two raised points between the rear corner fans, and the swooped bottom edge rests comfortably on the raised lips. I always felt Alienware made the two rear cooling fans a bit too close to the resting the surface since that area does still get quite warm, hot even after very prolonged use, when sitting on my desk without raised support. Sometime ago, I had jury-rigged something similar to this stand with two strips of wood (lol) to give room for the fans to actually get some exhaust space. This is undeniably a better idea and certainly looks far more stylish.

It Works

This is a handy little device to prop up a laptop. It does two things, it puts the keyboard on a slight angle making it more comfortable to type; and it allows air flow beneath the laptop to aid in cooling.

The angle is gentle. If you are really sensitive to that kind of thing, this is probably heaven sent for you. The support folds up into a very compact deal - it is easy to carry around in a laptop bag.

The cooling piece is not nearly as important with a MacBook Pro or Air - most of the cooling comes from the top and rear of the laptop. This is a big deal for PC laptops though. One air path is either in or out from the bottom of the computer. If a laptop doesn't have room for air to flow beneath the computer, it will work harder to cool. The space this support lifts the laptop is ideal for air flow.

This thing is super easy to use. Unfold it to form an X. Then loosen the knurled knobs, slide the L shaped end out to your laptop size (minus 10 for 15 inch, slide out to the 5 marker), and then snug up the knobs. The little plastic tab goes at the front edge of the laptop and the big L shaped end rests on the laptop base near the screen.

On a table, the stand is very stable.

Great functionality, lightweight, keeps computer cool.

I use this laptop stand with my Dell Inspiron 15.6" laptop and it works great! The stand is very lightweight but sturdy and keeps even a medium-large laptop very stable.

There are two good reasons to get this and I needed both - to angle the keyboard about 15 degrees, which is a little easier on the wrists (I play guitar frequently so this is very important) and it keeps the laptop elevated and cool.

The cooling helps quite a bit, so much so that I can play Skyrim modded and on high graphics without any worry of overheating, which is great.

My only complaint would be that it's a little bit pricey for the materials, because let's face it, it probably cost only a few dollars to make. But the build quality is good and the functionality is great, so I would definitely recommend this.

Very lightweight, portable and useful laptop stand

Now this was a surprise. I own a fantastic laptop desk but had never even thought about a laptop stand until i was offered this one as a sample for review. So, I did not pay for this, I wasn't in the market for it and, quite frankly, when it was offered to me I wasn't expecting much. I am not a heavy laptop user so perhaps if you are, you would know more about the need for these items. I have a fair amount of curiosity about things so I wanted to try it.

Well this thing is great. It folds down to be super portable (about 7"x1.5") so it can easily be tucked away in a suitcase or even your back pocket. It is impressively light while also being impressively sturdy. Is unfolds and the "legs" can also extend to accommodate laptops up to 17 inches. For the purpose of this review I used my ultra portable lenovo ideapad U260 which did not require me to extend the legs at all. (I extended them a few times anyway just to see how durable they were and I was sufficiently impressed). Okay, so last night I really put the laptop through its paces as I cleaned out the hard drive and transferred tons of files to backup drives. 3.5 hours of backup transfer to be exact. The laptop heated up before I used this stand. After the transfer I did all sorts of maintenance and kept the laptop on the stand. The laptop seemed to benefit from having air circulating all around it. YMMV.

The other positive about this stand is the angle the laptop is kept at.... there is a gentle slant that works well for me and how I type.

Forget the rest; buy this one

This is a terrific product. It does something many devices do not: it really works. And I LOVE its very light weight and portability (it folds up to a small size). It's light years ahead of all of those bulky, heavy, and hard-to-carry-with-you contraptions used to keep your laptop cool and at an ergonomically correct angle. And it's adjustable. BUT: if you go to Amazon's search engine, and type in "laptop stand x", you will find not only this item, but two others as well. As far as I can tell from the close-up photos, they are identical. Not sorta similar, but identical. So I'm guessing one manufacturer and three vendors. One costs $21, another $22, the third $23. I paid $22, and don't regret it. This is a great product.
