Great laptop! mediocre tablet. Coming from a tech-savvy college student and casual gamer.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. Before I begin, I want to clarify a few things that have been misleading i previous reviews and Q&A. I also need to call out that I'm the first to review the recently released i7 version of this PC.
- The max screen resolution is 1366 x 768 I've looked at both the windows settings and the Intel Graphics properties and both show the max as 1355 x 768. Some have said that it goes higher but that has not been my experience. Frankly, this resolution is completely reasonable for a screen of this size and I have no complaints.

- The keyboard IS NOT backlit, A few have said that it is backlit, some have said that they had to figure out how to cut it on. I can assure you that the keyboard is not backlit. I have owned several PCs with backlit keyboards and you typically have to press the function (Fn) key in conjuction with one of the F keys to enable/disable the backlit keyboard this PC does not have an indicator on the F keys which reveals a backlit keyboard option. While I would like to have this feature, I find that the glow of the screen is sufficient enough for me to see the keys just fine in low light. There is a version of this PC at Best Buy (i3 and i5 versions only) that cost around $200 more that does have a backlit keyboard (while shopping for this PC I actually went to Best Buy and saw it, (it uses the Fn key as I described above).

- I have had no issues whatsoever with the wireless adapter, keep in mind that I purchased the i7 version of this PC though which was released at least 2-3 months after the i3 and i5 versions of this PC (which is what you're seeing so many other reviews on).Read more ›

I love my new ASUS Flip TP500LA. I got the Core i7 version and am thoroughly impressed with this laptop. This laptop is going to replace not only my very outdated Dell laptop, but also it looks like it's going to also be replacing my fairly new Galaxy Tab3 10" tablet, which was an unexpected side effect.

The thing that most sets this unit apart from all others is that you can use this as a regular laptop but that you can also use it like you would a tablet, but a really nice large tablet unlike anything else on the market. The Surface is a puny 11". Most other convertible laptops on the market are only 13.3". This one is a nice 15.6" and you can't beat the pricing for this. I find that converting this from laptop to tablet mode is pretty easy to get used to, and doesn't feel as clunky as I thought it would.

I also find that the touch screen eliminates my need for a mouse. Generally with my last lap top... I always kept a mouse handy to plug in to the USB. I hated using the trackpad. This model comes with a trackpad thing, but it doesn't need it really - I'll never use it... with the touch screen my mouse needs are eliminated completely.

The pictures on here just don't do it justice. This thing isn't nearly as bulky looking as the pictures make it out to be and it isn't that heavy.

The only think I DON'T like about this machine is Windows 8.1. But no one really likes it from what I can tell. It's not as intuitive as I'd like. I find their app store clunky and useless... and I can't actually get anything to load through the app store like facebook, dropbox or netflix. So I added these things from a Firefox browser without issue. Windows 8.1 is not ASUS's fault, and so I won't factor that into the star rating...Read more ›

Great performance but needs better specs!!

Its what you pay for! Interestingly, the price on this model fluctuates significantly. So much that as of today 12/20/2014 it is going for $800 + shipping + taxes and when I bought it a month back, it was $650 + taxes + 2-day free prime shipping. Bestbuy also carries a similar model which is $999 + taxes but it has a better NVIDIA graphics card, DVD Drive, back-lit keyboard and few other minor differences I guess. The Bestbuy model has a 1920x1080p resolution because of the graphics card but this one does not and its because the Bestbuy has an exclusive Asus model for themselves.

Apart from the above differences, rest of the specs are exactly the same as far as the important things are concerned like the 5th Gen i7 processor, 8GB RAM and the 1TB HDD (I wish it had a SSD). The touchscreen is great, fast and extremely responsive. I like the fact that it flips and can be used as a tablet. It also auto-deactivates the keyboard, which is an intelligent feature built for this model. The resolution is OK and a bit pixelated even though its HD (1366x768p). The model is 15.6' display so its looks bigger than <15" laptops. Even the keyboard has a numpad which only used to be in 17" models. The battery life is impressive and the laptop stays cool after a continuous usage of a few hours.

Overall its a great laptop for performance but it lacks a better graphics card. For the price, its a great buy and specs are top notch with some room for improvement!!

Got this to replace my Acer.
Overall, I like it. No problems with wireless, keyboard, or the touch screen. The only thing that bugged me was the rather terrible webcam...
It's extremely slow.
My Acer had a better camera.
Even so, I recommend this.
Just have a spare webcam on hand if you like chatting on skype or video blogging.
