after spending quite some time searching for a laptop bag i found this one that seemed to fit my needs.
the reviews i read about it were accurate:
pros: light, nice padding, enough pockets for everything and separate stuff like pens and things that can scratch or stain from the fragile items, nice padded shoulder strap and pockets with zippers in many places and the outside seems to be water resistant enough (i haven't tested that part yet).
cons: strangely placed handle that makes the bag tilt towards the outside when held by the handle and front lock buckle not being adjustable for when the bag is not full; the front part flaps and makes the whole bag not look and handle "tight".
last thing that is important for those like me who consider buying the "lighter" color instead of the $15 cheaper (and in stock) blue-grey, the stock photos make the colors appear much lighter then they actually are.
i was tired of always getting dark bags so i opted for the more expensive (but exactly the same) lighter colored one and i really regret it. it looks more camo than "sandish".... so beware of the pics !

other than that i'm really happy with it and going to give it a go !

for those who like black, Brenthaven ProLite II Shoulder Case is very well made and just about the same price

It is an ok laptop bag. Like many things, it has its pros and cons (see below).

Pros
It does a decent job at what it is supposed to do: it holds a laptop and has room for other documents inside. The secondary compartment is roomy and has several pockets inside it.

Cons
There are two main cons I have with this bag. The first is when opening the main compartment. When opening the main compartment, the sides fold odd, reducing the amount of space to physically access the opening. It isn’t too much of an issue, but it does add aggravation when trying to quickly put something in (or out).

The next issue is the strap. It’s not the best of quality as far as rigidity and as such, always seems to twist in a rope-like fashion. Even with the should pad, the twisted strap can be uncomfortable after a few minutes.

I am using this bag to tote a 15" Retina Macbook Pro. It fits perfectly along with my magic mouse and power adapter. My only complaint deals with the water bottle holder; it is only big enough to fit one of those small disposable water bottles, my larger Nalgene-style water bottle does not fit. For those who list the handle location as a "con" because it makes the bag tip forward, I'm not sure where you would expect the handle to be placed. If it were placed on top of the center of mass, it would have to be stitched to the cover flap meaning all the weight stress of the bag would be directly on the buckle. Obviously that would not be a good idea.

This bag arrived promptly and the price was very reasonable. I used this bag on two work conferences out of town and it held up great. I only have an iPad, not a laptop, along with a few binders of work material. the space worked great for me and I like the pockets up from for all my random other little devices.

The only complain is the buckle up front. It's fine for the most part but it can be a little finicky clipping the two parts together. Once connected it works fine. It really is minor but worth a quick mention

Overall, great bag. I would recommend this to others.

My wife uses this for work as she is a teacher. It carries her laptop with ease a 13" and it fits all of coursework documents. The plus for this is the additional pocket to carry a bottle for water or whatever your craving to drink. Construction is great, with her using this for the past 2 months she has no complaints. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a messenger style laptop carrier.

I did a lot of searching and comparing before buying this bag. I needed a bag that could carry my laptop, small notebooks, and a bunch of odds and ends when I travel. It has a great forward compartment with many useful pockets (one fits my Kindle perfectly), and the main compartment is very well padded. The shoulder strap is very comfortable and the bag is very well made. I highly recommend.

Definitely a lot of room for smaller things in the front pocket (chargers, etc), but the pockets within that pocket are really outdated... Meaning they appear to be sized for CDs and other stuff that nobody carries around any more. A nice sturdy bag, though.

this has so many handy spaces. really keeps you organized on campus. I cant fit a lot of large books in it at one time but that would get too heavy anyway. it is made to go on your left or right, the last bag I had went just on one side, and was made to stay in place better, but this one has so much nicer storage areas it makes up for that. its holding up well too.
