Takes a while to get used to. Shoulder straps are scratchy and a bit uncomfortable on first few uses. Very little padding at the bottom so even though the laptop compartment doesn't reach the bottom of the bag and therefore protects it, everything else sags and makes the bag more uncomfortable to carry. If you arrange your stuff well inside the main compartment though, it props up well on its own. Top part of the bag doesn't have extra lining/reinforcement either, so I have yet to find out how it will hold up when it rains. That said, quality and capacity is great!

Great for the price

I grabbed this backpack as a temporary replacement while my Ful Powerbag is being serviced under warranty. I'm quite pleased with it for the money. The straps are comfortable, even when loaded down. The main pockets are spacious. I would have liked more in the way of organizing pockets for pens, gadgets, etc, but it's again adequate for the price. I do find the vertical zipping pocket on the back of the bag to be kind of a mystery. I don't know what it's for or how to use it effectively.

My only real complaint is that with the fewer number of organizing pockets in this bag, a lot of my pens and stuff sort of accumulate at the bottom. Something to keep in mind if you carry a lot of pens, ipods, jump drives, and other small stuff.

If you like making statements, this bag is a great canvas. The outside of the bag is relatively flat and solid black. It displays my button collection nicely, and would make a good display area for patches, embroidery, or other modding.

Best Targus Bag I've Ever Had

This is an awesome backpack. I've had it for over a year and it still looks new despite my brutal commute. It's strong and sturdy. Even with a 10 to 15 pound load it's comfortable on my shoulders for the mile-long walk from the train station to my office. Everything is in good shape. The material, the straps, the zippers, the pockets. It's held up way better than the Targus one it replaced.

I love that it has a lot of pockets. the biggest pocket has a place to slip in a laptop. The description says it holds a 16-inch computer, but my 17-inch Ultrabook fits in it with room to spare. It's got another largish pocket and a zipper pocket in the front. Plus two side pockets, perfect for a can of soda each. I've got plenty of room for all my necessities.

It doesn't have a vent for the the laptop. If, for some reason, I leave my laptop on during the two hours that comprise my commute, it overheats. I don't really consider that a problem, since i should turn my computer off anyway.

I wish they made backpacks this nice when I was a kid.

No Side Protection For Laptop

I have used an old Targus briefcase style laptop case for at least 12 years, and it provided excellent protection for my laptop. I dropped it from knee level or knocked it over numerous times and the 360 Degrees of padded computer protection never let me down. I even bought other types of Targus accessories because I thought the laptop case we well-made and a good value.

I needed something with more storage and my first choice was Targus based on past experience. I decided to get a laptop backpack.

I learned the hard way this backpack provides no side protection. The bottom of the backpack is padded and provides protection but the sides are not padded at all. This is a complete design fail for any product that claims to protect an electronic device. I am very disappointed in Targus for completely letting me down after being a loyal customer for years.

I was holding the backpack by the strap on the top and it slipped out of my hand. It did not fall further than knee level and it fell into grass. There was no damage to the part of the laptop that was on the padded bottom of the backpack. But the left rear corner of the laptop was damage because there is absolutely to side padding! The keyboard bezel, keyboard cover, display bezel, and display cover were all damaged because this backpack offers no side protection! According to an HP Authorized Service Center, the damage is between $300-400

I am including a picture of the damage. If a representative from Targus monitors these reviews I would be very interested in hearing from you about this. As evidenced from the damage to my laptop your backpack should offer some lateral protection. The padded bottom did an excellent job, the unpadded side did nothing and this is unacceptable for a protective covering. I would really like to hear from Targus or someone about this.

I got this backpack for college. I have a 15" Retina MacBook Pro placed in a Targus tss64000-50 laptop sleeve. It fits nicely in the laptop compartment of this backpack. The laptop compartment is not all that padded. The back part of the laptop compartment is padded while the front part is a mesh material (thus I put my laptop in a sleeve).

The overall backpack pretty nice and sturdy. I love the all black design of the backpack. I've had this backpack for about a week and so far so good. I am happy with my purchase.

**Update May 1, 2015*

After 3.5 months of use, this backpack is holding up nicely! I use it almost everyday. At times I do pack a number of textbooks and a dslr in it and it gets pretty heavy. But this holds up nicely. The straps provide great cushioning. No tears or rips whatsoever even with a heavy load. So far, I'm pleased with this product!
