Lenovo ThinkPads are definitely the best business laptops. When our employees travel, they prefer the E series over any other model that we have available. It's light, modern looking, and easy to carry in a bag. This E545 is a solid machine. Some of the improvements over the last generation over the E545 are speaker location, improved touchpad buttons, and a better battery life. I went with the 256GB SSD configuration so I have enough storage and plenty of speed without breaking the bank. I highly recommend this model.

This is a great computer. I bought for my son since he is going away for his PHD program in a few months. He used to have the previous model E545, but this one is so much faster since it has an SSD.

Update 3 Oct 2015: These computers are garbage. I bought another and it didn't work so Amazon sent me a repIacement. After a week that one bricked too. Do not purchase.

Normally I don't buy computer pieces that have been modified by the vendor, I prefer to do all that stuff myself. But I was in a time-crunch, didn't have time to order parts and do it myself, and took a chance with the A^ model, with the upgraded RAM and HDD swapped out for a SSD.

When I got it, I was simply blown away. OEMGenuine did an excellent job swapping hardware out, and left me with a brand new install of Win7Pro, minus all the normal bloatware you normally get on a new machine. I didn't have to swap out any hardware, I didn't have to put a new install of Win7 on it, and I didn't have to spend time tracking down and uninstalling garbage from my machine. Consider me impressed.

The machine itself, is a very good mid-range laptop. It isn't going to set any benchmarking high-scores, it chokes on graphically-heavy games, has a goofy non-standard resolution, and the battery life will only last you four hours, but for the price, to expect anything more is just setting yourself up for disappointment. It's beefy enough for my wife to use Photoshop without issue while running all the other program suites she uses to do freelance web design, fast enough to go from off to web-surf ready in 20 seconds (this is why I swapped the HDD with a SSD), large enough to use as a media machine from across the room (it is sizable), and only set me back about $500, with the 3rd-party pieces swapped in.

This item is exactly what I thought it would be, and OEMGenuinie did an excellent job with the after-market stuff, at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend it, provided you're not looking for a gaming laptop (and if you are, you need to double the price-point you're looking at.)

Edit 9/7/15: I'm updating my review from two stars to four stars because the CPU slowness was because it was doing an Windows Update check that doesn't show up using the default Task Manager settings, and I did get used to the off-center trackpad. Not a bad computer for the price if you're okay with the larger size, and it has Windows 7 too (Home only though), which is a plus.

First, Microsoft really screwed things up with Windows 10:

You need the latest BIOS update (1.17) from the Lenovo web site or the Windows 10 upgrade will brick your system. 1.12 (Feb 2015) was installed on my system. I was in an unbootable state -- stuck at blue Windows logo -- and even booting a Windows 7 ISO I downloaded from the Microsoft site was stuck in the same place. Wasn't able to boot the Windows 7 recovery partition anymore either (choosing it will boot and hang on Windows 10 again).

After burning the BIOS update to CD and updating the computer, the Windows 10 install finished, and I was able then to boot the recovery partition and restore the Windows 7 image. It's still working fine right now.

Software aside, it may take a couple weeks to get used to the trackpad on the left side of the computer (centered on the main part of the keyboard). If you do an Internet search for "1569 amd a6-7000" (1569 is the score), you'll see the performance is very low compared to Intel processors. You're also paying (not much) for an average to below average matte screen. I originally wrote that the system was really slow -- it wasn't, it was because the system was doing a Windows Update check with uses up all the CPU, and Task Manager hides that normally.

The computer is slow, even with an SSD drive in it. The computer doesn't seem like much effort was put into the look/feel but maybe that is true of Lenovo computers in general - this is my first Lenovo. In fairness, I got the computer I paid for and it arrived relatively quickly. I was impressed with the seller offering a number of different configurations.
