I've gone through many bags...my previous bag was the Herschel Little America bag. That bag, while fashionable, was not very practical for an "urban adventurer". The Timbuk2 Rogue is the first time I ever felt a strong personal attachment to a backpack. I am in the outdoors alot, and needed a bag to suit that lifestyle....but also be chic enough to wear to the city everyso often.

The design of it is great. I got the sleek black version. I liked the fact that it has a water bottle pocket. I would've liked two pockets....but where I think this backpack shines is in the outerwebbing. I've made elastic straps primarily for carrying my MeFoto tripod on the outside. I will sometimes put other objects there such as portable swings, rope, snorkels, etc. The left of the bag, where I wish there was another mesh pocket is more webbing. This is a great place to put a small pouch. I use miltary MOLLE straps to keep a case for a Micro 4/3s camera in place. I wish the webbing could've been placed up the side of the backpack. I could imagine putting an umbrella there.

And speaking of rain....I've been out in the rain with this bag twice so far.....and both times the insides were COMPLETELY dry! I don't know if I can say that for other bags of this price range.

It has it's quirks. But I'm giving this bag 5 stars for being fashionable and functional.

Small but efficient. Had to return.

I use a rugged-ized Dell Latitude for work doing industrial service. It is built like a tank.It is fairly small with a 13" display, but it is almost 2" thick, and it has rubber bumpers on the corners. This makes it hard to find a good backpack that it will fit in. When I saw this Timbuck2 and read all of the good reviews, I thought it would be exactly what I needed.

I expected it to be big and tough. I found that it is a lot smaller than I expected. My laptop does fit and that is good. I carry around a lot of different cables and gadgets and even though this backpack is small all of my stuff fits, that is good too. The straps are too close together at the top and that makes it uncomfortable to wear. I have adjusted them up and down, but I have not been able to find a comfortable spot. I like that it only has one large compartment. It is minimal and efficient. I like that, bu the comfort issue is almost a deal breaker.

It seems to be put together well, but the material seems very thin. I will be surprised if it lasts over a year. If it does, I might revise my review and give it another star, but only if I can find a way to adjust the straps to make it more comfortable. If I was not in dire need, I would probably send it back.

Edit 3-1-15: After one week of use, one of the shoulder straps came un-sewn where the bottom adjustment strap is sewed to the top padded part. It had come completely apart before I noticed it. That made the strap useless. I am fortunate that I saw it before the bag fell off my back. The other strap was still holding on. I contacted Amazon. They have sent me a replacement and I have returned the first bag. I will give the Timbuk2 Rouge one more chance. Kudos to Amazon for their great customer service.Read more ›

Fits my Lenovo 15.6" laptop.

Absolutely loving this backpack so far. I have taken it to school, rode the train, carried around my DJ gear in it and used it as a computer/tech bag for work. My Lenovo y500 gaming laptop is a large laptop computer with a 15.6" screen. On Timbuk2's website they advertise that this model will not fit in the bag. However, mine fits snug. I do not see it causing damage to the bag later down the road. This may not apply to all 15.6" laptops, but if you decide to use the compatibility utility on their website, understand that it tell you that your laptop computer will not fit if it is anything above 15", their advertised compatibility.

Construction is excellent. I paid ~$60 and it definitely exceeded my expectations in terms of build quality. The side pocket for a water bottle actually fits my stainless steel water bottle or Contigo travel mug with ease. No overstretching and it is secure.

Looks very professional. Great for a serious college student or anyone who wants a sleek looking tech backpack.

I was able to fit 2 textbooks, my Lenovo y500 laptop with the massive AC adapter included with most gaming laptops, Nexus 7 tablet with a case and tablet stand, large gaming mouse, 2 inch binder, graphing calculator, pens, pencils, wallet, keys, cell phone, iPod nano, earphones, 3000maH USB power bank, travel mug, lunch and phone/tablet charger.

Don't get the wrong idea, this is not a huge backpack. It is just very easy to pack it. I wanted a nice balance between a sleek form and large capacity. The top flap design allows for more freedom than a zipper.

Highly recommend this bag. I see it lasting for years to come.

Wish they had another mesh pocket on the other side. When I put a bottle on the pocket, the weight is shifted a little strangely. I also feel like the velcro and straps are a bit redundant in design, the belts are just there for style because even if you don't use them, there's a big strap of velcro underneath the opening of the backpack that secures it.
