Super Little Laptop That is Surprisingly Fast

Hello Everyone :)

Please see my video review to get a good look-around and demonstration of this laptop.

VIDEO UPDATE #2: Disregard the storage space part of the review: A fellow Amazoner made this great comment/suggestion: If you upgrade to Windows 10, after 30 days Windows 8 is nothing but a junk file on your hard drive. You can remove it with a disk cleanup program.

I gained about 20 gigs of extra free space on my SSD because of this.

VIDEO UPDATE: I should've noted that this laptop DOES NOT HAVE A DISC-DRIVE. You'll have to load programs via download or USB only. This is becoming a popular option amongst laptop-producing companies.

My brief written review is as follows:

Pros:

*VERY lightweight and portable.
*Awesome battery life.
*Suprisingly fast.
*Boots to desktop screen in about 10 seconds.
*GREAT-looking 11" screen.
*Ample solid-state drive gives you adequate storage space.
*Memory card reader can greatly increase your storage space.
*USB 3.0!
*Online functionality is flawless.
*Very little heat output due to the lack of a spinning hard drive and fan.
*Runs general programs without a hitch.
*Upgrade to Windows 10 was flawless and works great.
*Perfect for school or travel.

Cons:

*Storage space might be too small for some.
*NO disc-drive.
*Bloatware. It's not the worst I've seen, but you'll spend some time uninstalling worthless games and trial software.
*Upgrading to Windows 10 took several hours.
*Keyboard takes some getting used to. The keys require just a little more heft than what most are used to. Personally, I got used to it within a day.
*Screen might be too small for some. I LOVE IT.

Perfect Couch Computer

Only docking a star because of lack of touchscreen. Toshiba made the 32gb model with one but left it off the 128mb, sad but true. Otherwise for a couch computer (as mine is called) it's great! I have no complaints about memory or speed. Downloaded office with no issues and still have 85mb of storage left. Webcam is great quality and it has Bluetooth. Great buy! Glad I chose this over HP Stream!! Purchased mine from Best Buy for $229

I am giving it a 4 star because I have not had time to sit down and learn windows 8.1 yet. The 4 stars is for customer service. I know very little about computers and the quick start guide leaves a lot to be desired. What is wrong with the old 123 way of doing things. Ended up having CS walk me thought the set up and they were great.

This little laptop is highly portable, fast, and efficient. After arrival, I upgraded it into windows 10 without any issue. The speaker is great. The display is awesome. The only issue I have is the keyboard, some keys are not as responsive as those in other keyboard so I have to type harder.

A competent and practical laptop that took much effort to set up

The field:
Aside from being mostly identical hardware-wise to other popular 11.6" laptops: HP Stream, Lenovo S21E, Asus X205, etc., this Toshiba comes with a 128GB SSD vs 32GB in the others. That alone should put it on your shortlist of candidates.

Granted, you can add a 64GB SD Card to those but the $20 expense, the reduced efficiency in managing content, and the permanent occupation of the SD card slot while not even reaching 128GB combined, simply does not make sense.

As for this Toshiba laptop, although we are happy with it, it is not perfect and took 5+ hours to set up (a one-time thing).
Here is a 2 part review. A short and a long take.

The short-take:
The L15 is a competent and practical laptop fast enough for your everyday uses from Web browsing to audio and video streaming, light gaming, editing Documents and running various Windows utilities.
Note on Web browsing: Microsoft Edge was EXTREMELY slow for me on this machine. Chrome on the other hand is a delight !!!

System-related tasks were fast: uninstalling programs, fetching/opening files, adjusting system parameters, disk cleanup, etc.
The keyboard is responsive and easy to use. It has dedicated keys for Page up/down, volume, brightness.
The touchpad worked well but only after customization.
The screen needed calibration before it provided good contrast.
Many drivers required updating, and bloatware needed to be uninstalled.
The screen brightness has excellent dark/bright range and the speakers can get very loud.

I would strongly recommend waiting for this or other machines to be shipped with the much preferred Windows 10 unless you have a special attachment to Windows 8 or need one soon. Upgrading to Windows 10 took 2+ hours !Read more ›

Bad sound, mouse touch pad is clunky, and slow reaction time while browsing = no go.

I didn't care for this one, and returned it. There are more expensive versions of the Satellite Radius, so maybe those are faster with a faster processor, but this one seemed slow to react, which is odd, being a solid state drive. I hated the mouse touch mad. I previously used a Chromebook, which reacted instantly and was very easy to use. This one has a second delay and the scrolling speed is clunky and not precise. The slow processor and mouse pad alone made this laptop a chore to use. The 1/8th inch audio insert didn't seem to connect well with my headphones or other various audio 1/8th" insets. The connection was bad, and there were sudden pops or just inaccurate volume levels at times. That could have been an issue with mine alone since I'm sure this would be a deal breaker with everyone. The overall sound was not loud or clear. In comparison to my Chromebook, (which was one of the 1st ever and cheap) it was terrible. I'm a music guy, so streaming from spotify is my main music source in my house, so this wouldn't not work well with me. Other then those 3 things, I had no issues, but it was enough to return it.
