I normally don't write reviews, in fact this is my first one. I just couldn't help myself with this laptop. I'm incredibly particular when it comes to computers, and this one is everything I ever wanted. The display is vibrant and clear, it boots up in seconds after a restart, wakes up almost immediately when you open the lid, and it's just super quick and snappy all around. I move very fast on a computer (and don't have a lot of patience for waiting) and this is the only machine I've found in this price range that keeps up with me and doesn't make me sit and wait on it to process. Nice smooth trackpad with right and left click buttons that actually register that you've clicked, without requiring multiple tries.

I was at the local store testing out laptops while I was researching for this purchase, and I noticed that other brand models had keys that were too hard to press, making me miss letters when I typed. On others, the number pad <0> key was small and not in line with the 7,4,1 column. I would miss the <0> every time on those and it was frustrating. But on this one, the keys are placed perfectly and have just the right amount of sensitivity for my taste. I tested and HP, and while typing, my hand would rest on the touch pad, making the screen zoom in and out unexpectedly. This one doesn't do that, but even if it did, there is a function key to turn off the touch pad if you don't need it. Also the colors on the HP were extremely dull and washed out, and the words on the screen were just not crisp at all, even though the screen size and resolution were the same.

The speakers on this laptop have great volume and robust sound.

Toshiba 2-in-1 Convertible Tablet UltraBook 15.6" Touchscreen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 12GB DDR3L Ram Memory - 256GB SSD Solid State Drive P55W-B5318 after reading much of the reviews i was a bit scared to spend as much but , THIS LAPTOP IS A BEAST, never have i seen anything as fast as this, i should know im an I.T guy, i bought one for my wife, she is an architect, i bought one for my self and another for a client, no problems with WiFi at all, super fast speed, got rid of junk soft that came with it, installed my own stuff, and just amazing, my recommendation is never use a laptop out of the box, always pay an I.T guy for a friend in the filed to prep it for you ^_^ pls watch the video for more info

I bought this computer (Toshiba P55W-B5318) for my wife. She is a tax accountant and usually has about 20 things open at once. This computer ROCKS! The only complaint she has is that the battery lasts too long. We took a 5 hour drive and the battery lasted the entire time. Not 10 hours though, only 5. My only issues with the unit are very minor. I am not fond of the fact that it has no ethernet plug-in so if you intend to link to the internet via a wired connection you will need a USB adapter. (http://www.amazon.com/Unibody-Aluminum-Gigabit-Ethernet-Supporting/dp/B00PC0H9IE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429119678&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+usb+3+ethernet+adapter) This is a good one. There is no CD/DVD player but that is no biggie, as they are inexpensive and less-and-less of a requirement. It is expandable for RAM and SSD so you have upgrade options too. Wifi is great. We have had no issues as others have. The trackpad is mega adjustable for touch or click and both scroll directions. Oh, don't try to use the F5 key to refresh because that now shuts off your touchpad! The HDMI plug-in is a 4K video connection and the wifi is AC type. Bad to the bone!

This laptop has every positive attribute/option I was looking for in a computer. I suspect that my high-level criteria will be adequate for the vast majority of PC shoppers. (See below for my screen brightness discovery.)

My Criteria:
1) 4th Generation Intel i7 Processor
2) More memory (has 12GB instead of 8 or less) - even if I don't utilize all 12GB, it's there for whenever I need it. Like occasional Adobe design/video work.
3) Solid State Drive - Honestly, I wanted a larger capacity drive. But I'll take the blazing speed & reliability of the SSD over a 5400rmp hard drive any day.
4) 3 USB 3.0 ports - I don't know why some PCs offer a couple of 3.0 and a single 2.0. I'll take ALL 3.0 ports thankyouverymuch!
5) Numeric keypad - Seems petty, but whenever I'm crunching numbers or working on finances a numeric keypad makes me very happy.
6) Backlit keyboard - I had a MacBook Pro with backlit keys, then I had an HP Envy x2 without it. I definitely like the benefit of backlit keys when working in dim lighting.
7) Tablet option - This option isn't for everyone. You can find a similarly outfitted PC with all of the above, without the tablet feature and probably save a little cash.
8) Reasonable price - This computer, with all of the features above (even WITH the tablet functionality) has a GREAT price!

Regarding Wi-Fi Issues & Dim Display:
- I have had zero problems with Wi-Fi issues. Seems to me that was a problem in the past, and it's resolved...feel confident in that.
- The display was bright, but then seemed to go dim and stay that way. Then I realized the "Adaptive Brightness" is turned on by default in the computer's Power Settings.
