I bought this laptop yesterday expecting great things based on the specs and features listed. However, when I got the laptop, the fans were unusually loud, even though I was just simply browsing the Internet with one tab open. It was extremely distracting. I also noticed flickering on the webpages I browsed. Then the next day, the colors were totally washed out and the computer's screen looked monochrome. Later on in that day, red lines filled my screen. When I X'd out of a window, that window's image would be bled into my desktop's display. As it is now, my brand new $850 laptop is in a worse state than the four year old $530 laptop I was replacing it with.

My laptop is defective, and now I have to go through the hassle of returning it and ordering a new one. Amazon cannot simply replace it since it was sold through a third party. It's entirely possible I was just unlucky and got one of the few defective laptops. This laptop is a new model, so I'm not sure anyone really knows at this point if it is reliable or not. But I wanted to share my story as someone who had a negative experience with this laptop.

I attached a picture of the the laptop's display after X'ing out of Google. My desktop has the ASUS logo because it was imported from my old laptop. If you look at the bottom left of the monitor, you'll see the Toshiba logo.

I don't normally write reviews, but this laptop has been such a pleasure to use, I'd like to say a couple things for any prospective buyers.

I bought this laptop as a replacement for my 2009 MacBook Pro which I mainly used for photo editing. I was tired of paying the Apple premium and Windows based PC laptops have come a long way. I opted for the Toshiba Satellite Radius because ascetically it is very Apple-like in design, has solid hardware features and was priced reasonably (under $1000 USD). Despite being used to the OS X operating system, I was able to navigate through Windows 8.1 with ease and setup my desktop to my liking. I recommend updating the laptop with all the latest drivers and patches using both Toshiba's setup window and the Windows update panel. I was also able to get free software to read my Mac formatted external hard drives making the platform switch a breeze. Adobe CC also works great and I transferred all my Photoshop actions and Lightroom color profiles, preserving my editing routines from my Mac.

I haven't seen any of the issues mentioned in other reviews especially with the weak WiFi signal. I'm using an Apple Airport Express and the Toshiba Radius picks up the signal with no problems. Also the other features while not being a priority are nice, especially the touch screen and ability to rotate the screen into a tablet! While a bit gimmicky, they work smoothly and I can seen how they can be useful for certain occasions.

The only issues I've dealt with are very minor. I recommend taking the time to calibrate the screen brightness and colors using the built-in software. Out of the box they aren't well calibrated.

I have been using this laptop for about 3 days now, and I absolutely LOVE this machine!

I purchased this computer primarily to serve as a replacement for my previous mobile development machine. As both a professional and hobbyist computer programmer and web developer I run a variety of development tools and software applications on a regular basis, and thus far this computer has continued to perform beautifully even when multiple applications are running processes at the same time. The keyboard is a delight; in fact it is the most comfortable laptop keyboard I have ever used, and the back-lighting of the keys and the addition of a full number pad are added bonuses! The touch-pad is also very comfortable, and though I will always personally prefer a mouse the texture of the pad makes slipping of the fingers minimal and gives you a bit of fine control over the pointer.

I have also been able to work for hours on end with this computer in my lap without feeling like I am the world's biggest liar (and my pants are on fire). The fans on my unit are very quiet despite the reports I read in other reviews of this model that the fans are quite loud, and the audio system is extremely good for a laptop computer. As I type this review, I have been working on battery power for about 2 and a half hours and my battery has drained to 60%, which I consider to be rather decent considering I have my power settings set to High Performance and I have been working almost continuously the entire time.

There really are very few things about this computer that I can find to complain about.

Within seconds of trying to get online the wireless driver would go on and off. With no RJ45 I input I knew I was in trouble. The kind of trouble that spells more trouble. Too bad. The specs and price were perfect.
