This laptop is great. I would have gone 4.5, but couldn't go 5 because its not a perfect machine. Yeah, i know, what is, but keep reading. I firmly believe that window 8 was designed for 2 in 1 touchscreen laptops. I am flying from touchpad to mouse to keyboard back to touchpad. This thing flies. I have a little audience behind me (wife/kids) and everyone is jealous. I have a feeling there will be lines to use it. I will enjoy it while i can.

So lets dig in a bit.

Processor/RAM - yowza. flies. no lag, and I am running about 30 programs. 8gb plus an i7 - fanless. oh my.

Visual/graphics - whoa - the full HD IPS Tru Brite is as good as billed on a high quality glossy screen. Netflix has never looked so good.

Keyboard - backlit, which is an added bonus. The keys, however, leave a bit to be desired. Not as crisp/smooth as most other laptops. Its odd that such a premium unit would cheap out on this feature. But it's a minor complaint.

Weight - Another complaint for me. Heavier than you would expect from its looks. The other thing is that the screen/tablet is heavier than the base creating a feel of imbalance.

The build is solid and sturdy. And its a beautiful looking machine if that is what you are in to. I got the matte silver. Beautiful metallic striations run along the top of the tablet. Its very thin, too, again, making it oddly heavy.

Battery is solid. You can change settings like on any other computer to significantly increase battery performance.

Windows 8 - change is difficult for most people because most people have the patience level of a child. If you give yourself a chance to like Windows 8, you will end up falling in like - or maybe love.Read more ›

Item did not come as described and did not even work.

First of all I purshased this laptop and the display never came on. I called Toshiba and gave them my serial number and was asked if I was aware that the product was refurbished. I then tried every step the rep gave me to get it working and nothing worked. I checked the box it came in for any indication that this was a refurbished product and it had a sticker on it with the model name and then *NEW* directly under it. Needless to say I am very disappointed with this because I was obviously deceived. I wish I could give this zero stars.

This is an amazing computer! It works really well. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The battery lasts quite a while, but the settings can be changed to make it last even longer. I had never been willing to spend a lot of money for a computer before, but this computer definitely makes the expense worth it.

Keyboard is so awful it's almost useless - unedited review to show you

Don't bother. The keyboard makes this computer useless. I have t constantly go back and fix keying errors (like letter not even showing up when I press them, or double letters showing up!). I did not edit this review for that very purpose- to show you what typing is like if you purchase this. How can they seriously mess up a keyboard so badly? Btw, my profession is in publishing so II type almosst 100% accurately and barely nneed to proofread my work ever. Until now. Sorely disappointed.

Some of the on-line reviews were a little misleading; for example: there was comment about the weight of the detachable monitor being too much for the keyboard base - not an issue at all. Screen resolution, speed; all outstanding. The startup time is about 1.5 seconds. There were also odd comments about the keyboard; again, no issues from me. This was my first Toshiba but was money well spent.
