My seven-year-old laptop was on it's last legs, so I was shopping for a new one. I figured I'd shell out at least $600, so I researched for weeks. Finally, I wrote down some sku numbers of highly rated laptops, including this one, and went to BestBuy, and tried out all the laptops I was interested in. I NEVER thought I'd be buying the cheapest one there, and one with a Celeron processor?!?! Amazingly, this laptop was the one I chose, and I promise you it's worth it -- as long as you're not playing Crysis or something. I wanted a laptop that could run Photoshop, Fruityloops (music-making software), have a great display, surf the net fast, and be fast while running several applications. And it does! It is very fast, the display is AMAZINGLY bright and crisp, and it does all I want it to. I did just order another 4gb stick of RAM for forty bucks, but even without more RAM you'll still be very pleased. And it's only 229 at bestbuy. So, overall I got a super laptop with a total of 8GB RAM and a 500gb (!) hard drive for less than three hundred bucks! Now that's what I call AWESOME. The Three things that I didn't like (but are all repairable) was Windows 8's UI. It stinks big time. So I quickly switched to "classic" view and downloaded a startup button -- problem solved, runs and looks like Windows 7. Next, the sound card drivers STINK when you first buy this laptop -- no bass, tinny sound, horrible (even with headphones, no bass). Just Google Realtek HD Audio drivers and update the drivers -- problem solved, sounds excellent. Lastly, bloatware. Took about a half-hour to uninstall. Get rid of Norton, install free internet security software (I did ZoneAlarm). The battery will give you about 2.5 hours on a charge with brighter screen settings. I've rambled too much.Read more ›

I bought this computer for my brother, who needed a computer to take with him to school and work. It was important that it was powerful enough to do all of the tasks he needed on the internet, word processing, graphic design and gaming. He didn't want a really expensive computer though, since he is always traveling with it. The screen looks really nice, the keyboard is convenient and comfortable and it is overall very sleak. I think that for the price, this is as good as it gets. Although it won't run the most high-end games on the highest settings, it will run almost every game he's tried on it (sometimes the graphics details must be tweaked down). We use it to stream games to the television, and it pretty much does everything that is asked of it very quickly. It also runs cool, which is important! This computer has it all for a really decent price, and I would definitely recommend it! A+++++

Ultra 64's comments and demo say it all.

PS: If like me, you are not a fan of the Windows 8 metro interface, the first thing to do is install the free program "Classic Shell." Classic shell will skip the the metro interface and go directly to the desktop while installing a customizable Start button. To avoid any chance of a virus, search "Cnet Classic Shell". Cnet is a trusted, virus free provider of free and paid software. Classic Shell does not come with any bloatware or require registration. After installation, you can access metro the usual way by moving the cursor to the right edge of the page. Classic Shell allows you to have full control of the menu or boot to the metro interface using its advanced options.

For the price you really can't go wrong with this computer. It will handle all of your basic computing and internet needs with a little power to spare. Don't get me wrong if you are graphics junky this may not be the machine for you. But if you are the basic user (like me)that needs a reliable computer for writing reports and browsing the web this is the computer for you. Oh and did I mention you get a free pair of SkullCandy headphones as well. The only down side to this computer is the fact that it is running Windows 8 which takes some getting use to.

My 6 year old MacBook was starting to show its age. The battery was completely dead, in fact it had grown about a quarter inch thick lump on the underside. Not to mention, I couldn't really keep updating to the latest version of OS X due to barely meeting the new system requirements. I'd been running Linux on it the last few years anyways, and hadn't booted into OS X in as long.

I'd been looking at laptops casually for a while at a local retailer, and had a desire to get a new one by or around Christmas time.

I actually found a few locally on Craigslist that I considered buying, until I was pointed to this one. At the retailer I bought from, it was only $30 more than what I was trying to spend on Craigslist, so I figured why not? I ran to the store that night and picked one up. Aside from some initial frustrations in getting Windows Update to install all updates so I can upgrade to Windows 8.1, this laptop has been a dream.

Despite what many people feel are lower specs, the "quality index" score or whatever Microsoft calls it was a 4.8, which handily blew away my wife's "better spec'ed" HP at 3.9. I'm not a computer gamer, but I've noticed no slowness at all using this laptop. The off to ready to log in time was about 13 seconds, which is slightly faster than what I was getting in Linux under my old MacBook (and HIGHLY improved for any Windows PC in my book).

Bottom line, I'm very well pleased with this laptop. The only "grudge" I have against it (if you could call it that) is when you're holding it, it truly does feel "cheap." It's a very lightweight plastic, but to be honest I'm not at all concerned about it. The unit itself has performed well in the last week or so since I've owned it, and my recommendation has already caused another person to buy one.
