Good Basic pc. Not lighting fast but gets the job done.

Good basic PC if you are wanting to surf the web and watch movies and check Emails. Not lighting fast but does what I need it to. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, this would be the one for you. Plenty of storage space, plenty of ram 4 MB. Lags slightly but not enough to slow you down. One other thing about this Laptop, it has a great picture when viewing. Best I have seen. Something else about this laptop. You might want to get you some cheap speakers for it. The sound that comes out of the build in speakers are weak sounding. I have a pair that I may hook up to it. Overall for the price I give, it 4 stars. Update on this Pc. Works Great. The lag I mention in the first review is no more. Not a minutes trouble with it. Worth the money. Has the CD/DVD drive on it.

Pretty good for $230

This is my fifth laptop ever--Compaq, 2 HP, Dell, now Toshiba. I liked all of my other ones. I got this from BestBuy for $230 b/c the price was right. I installed Kaspersky antivirus and it seems to slow down the machine some. Over all, the computer has been pretty good for Microsoft Office, Google searches, email. I'm not a gamer. It seems to be worth the money for basic comp usage. So far, pretty happy--speed is sufficient. Again, it's about the price and so it serves well in light of the low cost.

Second, Working Model Is Bare Minimum

First go was DOA. Let it charge for over a day and tried various other troubleshooting steps before calling Toshiba. They couldn't help. As it turns out, this model has a service-only battery, so the user cannot remove it in the event of issues. That was something the Toshiba rep apparently didn't know, in addition to the fact that she asked me to look for a reset button (of the pin-hole variety) and there being none. Customer service lost some points on that. Ended up sending it back to Amazon for a refund and purchasing another once the return was confirmed.

Second go worked as it should out of the box. It was for my wife's post-grad education, so she only wanted a laptop to do the (web browsing, document editing, Spotify, etc.). I haven't tried running any games on it, but I doubt it would handle much. It has some issues with hangup while browsing the web, which may be due to the fewer-core processor.

If you want a laptop that does just the bare minimum, this one will do it for you. If you want a laptop that will run games more complex than Solitaire or do other video-based or otherwise intensive programs, get a different one. For bare minimum on a laptop, I wouldn't go any less than this price range unless you want a netbook or Chromebook. I don't have experience with either of those technologies, so I can't speak to their price ranges.

I had to amend this review. A week into it: the mousepad issue in the reviews is real. and it is annoying. also, it drops wifi on me a few times a day. dont know why. am sending it back though. dont want to deal with it.

Here's the second amendment that dropped it to one star. Starting a few days ago it would freeze up and not run programs like Skype. I held onto it because I needed it for work as a backup. Bad decision! It was working fine this morning. I worked on it all morning, no problem (except the host of other problems it has of course) then I shut it down for lunch. When I came back it was completely dead. A mornings work is gone now, and my afternoon is free. Fortunately my hp will be back today. The lesson, don't waste your time and money. The only good news is that its been less than 30 days, so it is returnable. (less than 30 days!!! Already dead),

The s***tiest product I got. Letter N came off after 1,5 month after purchase. Toshiba says I took the letter on the keayboard myself and have to pay for repair. Fair enough!!! I nominate them the s***tiest company of the year!!!
