Bought one for my daughter's 10th BD. Pretty good so far, it does attract fingerprints and "blurs" when she plays some online games, otherwise graphics are excellent. No CD/DVD, some sites say RAM is upgradeable, but at $100 for 8GB (or more for an SSD), I'd say spend the money on a better processor, maybe an i3, because the Pentium N3520 doesn't look all that much better than the Celeron N2830 in this unit (I avoid AMD in my laptops but fine for desktops). No issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, quite strong in distant back bedroom, so I returned my Netgear 200 WiFi/AC Extender (which was also pretty good, 35MB out of a possible 97MB over AC wires). I keep looking for a better deal (paid $229+tax), but I don't see much better for less than $150 more. We have 11 more days of "testing" to decide if we will keep this, I'm 75% sure that we will. BTW, a cheap (and better) alternative to a Chromebook, just under 5 LBs, so a couple of LBs heavier than a CB, but really quite light and nicely balanced. No problems with touchpad/keyboard, overall, a nice feel. Toshiba had an 8GB RAM model on closeout for $279+ state sales tax, with free shipping yesterday (ebay), not sure if it's still available. I would have opted for that had I known it was available, I think.

Its a good laptop. The performance is on par with $350 laptop i have from 2010 and that is still sufficient. At a price around 250 its hard to pass up when you need something for web/office work. Installed windows 7 and office, it works great.
I did some graphics tests and it scored a 94 on Frumark, which is not good, but is sufficient for all daily tasks.
I would recommend this laptop its well put together and they beyboard and trackpad work/feel nice.
The only downside is it attracts finger oils, you can clearly see where its been touched and its very hard to wipe it off. To keep this laptop looking new you would have to use gloves with it everytime you touched it. I guess thats what you get when the manufacturer builds a laptop this cheap.

My 2011 Netbook finally gave up, it still works, but it is so slow and webpages lag so much that is basically useless.

For that reason I went out looking for the cheapest thing that I could find to replace my slow netbook, so any computer should be an upgrade, but here is what I found. Note these are my first impression, I just got the computer today and been using it for about 5 hours now.

I found this computer on sale at BestBuy for $230 or $245 out the door with taxes. I choose this one over the HP version because of the bad reviews on the HP computer although the HP seemed to have a better screen and a better processor.

The Celeron processor and the 4 gig of ram is sufficient to browse the web and to run open office to write papers etc. I was also able to browse photos very smoothly from a slow flash drive that contained about 200 high quality jpeg images from my digital SLR. So far the speed is okay for my needs and my expectations, way better then my netbook.

The big surprise here is that this computer does have Bluetooth capability, I was able to connect this computer to my music receiver via Bluetooth and I am now streaming music from this computer, pretty cool.

So far it stays cool, I have not notice any excessive heat that would make the laptop uncomfortable.

Now the not so good...

The quality of this screen in terms of resolution and details can be compare to the technology dating back to 2005. I do not like the screen on this computer. It is super bright, too much contrast and not a way to turn the contrast down that I have found yet, I will keep poking around looking for such setting. Also, my 2011 Netbook has a nicer screen then this computer does.

I've tried one or two Window 8 laptops without touchscreen, and the touch interface is definitely the key to a great Windows 8 experience. The specs are great for the price, and it's definitely a enjoyable overall experience. I just wish it was a touchscreen, but for the price it's definitely worth it. For protection I would also recommend the 15.6" $12 Amazon Laptop Sleeve at http://amzn.to/1vkuTfu .

+ The 8.2.11/n wireless has great reach, I get signal all over the house even outside.
+ The display is clear, really nice for watching movies.
+ It comes with plenty of RAM and hard drive space.

- No CD/DVD reader

No complaints yet. Large, bright, non-touch screen, fairly quick, remarkably light and thin. I chose this one without an optical drive because optical storage seems to be finally running it's course now (I installed Windows office, Norton and other utilities over my WiFi and never missed the drive; optical drives are available for $20 on Amazon). I was rewarded with a smaller, thinner and lighter unit. I have been using Toshiba laptops for at least a decade (I have an old one from 2003 that is running Linux now). Prices have lingered in the $900 range until this one. Amazing power for the money. Windows 8.1 takes a different approach to the user interface, but the desktop is still present (hiding behind the tiled interface). I was pleasantly surprised to find very little crapware installed from the factory. Tinny speakers (poor sound) and the smallest power supply so far. Good keyboard (for a laptop) with a numeric keypad. Hooked up to WiFi without a hitch. Well recommended.
