Update: I've returned this laptop. I could live with the little RAM it had, but it was having far too much trouble connecting, and staying connected, to the WiFi. It may have been that I was given a defective product, but just keep that in mind. Also: if you want to upgrade the RAM, you'd be better off buying a different computer. RAM is not user upgradeable, but is instead is only able to be upgraded by a Toshiba technician. A service for which they charge an exorbitant fee (in the realm of $300). Buyer beware.

Pros:
- The weight: it's light and easy to carry, which is great for use on college campuses.
- The battery: so far it's been lasting about five hours, which is awesome.
- Startup is fast: seriously. Coming out of sleep only takes one or two seconds, powering on only takes about ten.
- Quiet: the fans aren't loud at all. Nice and silent.
- HDMI port: a nice addition.

Cons:
- RAM: only 2GB, and it starts to drop in speed when there are more than one or two operations going on.
- The battery: it isn't removable, which makes me a bit uncomfortable about longevity. You have to take out screws to remove and replace it.
- CD Drive: there isn't one.
- WiFi Connectivity: it seems to have trouble connecting and staying connected.
- Support: it's a new product so there isn't much information out there. Toshiba support is atrocious, as there isn't any. You can't call a representative, you can't send an email inquiry, you have to post your question on a forum and wait for someone to answer.

Uses:
I work as a web developer and am a college student, so my uses for a laptop don't require much power.

Picked this up on the Office Max black friday special. So far I'm very happy with it. I mostly use computers for watching netflix and surfing the internet, occasionally to let my kids play a game (such as something on the disney website), so nothing hard core. It's working fine for me. I'm sad about the lack of a dvd drive, but it wasn't advertised as having one, so people can't really get upset about that. No trouble with the wifi (almost didn't buy it because of that review). It's staying connected and running netflix with multiple other programs running in the background, and there's no lag at all. Not sure why the reviews for this product are so bad, if you're looking for a high grade laptop, don't look in this price range. It's perfect for the average computer user, and seems really sturdy for living in a house with young children. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of all the toshiba junk programs that come with it that I had to remove right off the bat, which took a good chunk of time.

Far and away the absolute worst computer I have ever had the displeasure of owning. I'm in college and have had Toshiba laptops in the past. I have had generally positive experiences with this particular company, but this abomination should never have seen the light of day. Don't expect to be able to use tabs while browsing the Internet. Don't expect to be able to have multiple programs open, and certainly DO NOT expect to be able to competently take notes in class. As I sit here, typing this review, I'm on my 26th minute of attempting to open my email. Ladies and gentleman, this is 100%, absolutely not an exaggeration. Seriously. 26 minutes. Let that sink in. I could have cooked and eaten a steak in the amount of time it has taken me to open an Internet browser, and hit my gmail link (which is on my home page). For the love of all that is holy and good, DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER. Your money would be put to better use buying a pizza box, opening it like a laptop, drawing a screen and keyboard on it with crayons, and attempting to open your email on that. This method I am suggesting will save you not only time and money, but it will also save you frustration. Toshiba will never receive another penny from me. I do not have the slightest clue how this was OK'd for mass production.

Let's start with the basics, for those out there who don't know much about computers.

Do you like tabs while using the internet? If so, this computer is not for you.

Do you like being able to smoothly scroll down while online shopping or reading email? If so, this computer is not for you.

Do you like running more than one program at once? If so, this computer is not for you.

Simply, this computer is so slow that it is barely usable, especially if you're used to computers that respond within 15 seconds when you click an icon or open a new window or scroll down on an article.

Now, onto the more nitty-gritty stuff.

All Windows computers will come with unnecessary programs, or bloatware, that slow down your computer. This computer is no exception. But this computer has such weak processing power that it took me almost an hour to remove said programs, using only the "Add and Remove" feature of the Control panel. And don't even get me started on how long it took for Internet Explorer to download Google Chrome. Right out of the box.

In my opinion, Toshiba should be ashamed. You can't have such a weak processor and 2 gigs of ram and expect windows 8 to run smoothly, or at all. As I type, I have Task Manager open, and have been monitoring Memory and CPU usage. One tab in google chrome is taking about 55-70 percent of this computer's CPU, and 80-90% of the shamefully small 2 Gigs of memory. It's not much more expensive, and definitely worth the upgrade

Simply put, an Intel Celeron N2830 Processor should never be used on any computer with an OS past Vista, prefferrably XP.

The touchpad is jumpy, unpredictable, and overall painful to use. It took me 5 tries to highlight and copy-paste 5 words.
