Great Value & great performance

After a month or so, I can say I really appreciate the value of this Laptop. Let's start with what I like:
1- Price... I bought this from BestBuy for $300 as "deal of the day"
2- Quad-core CPU- 4GB RAM and 1TB HD... Outrageous specs for the price actually. I shopped for days. There isn't a better deal out there.
3- 15.6" display is clear, sharp and nice to look at.
4- Video performance is better than expected. The AMD chipset performs well with games from a few years ago and select newer games. I can play GTA5 without issues although it isn't as pretty as my desktop.

What I don't like:
1-Memory upgrades are problematic. You have to split the chassis clam shell and there is simply no reason to make it that hard to upgrade.
2-DVD ROM is not Blu Ray. Hello... 2015?
3-Keyboard while "roomy" for a laptop, the feel is cheap and you don't get good tactile feedback.
4-The bloatware is intense. So much cleanup out of the box.
5- Speakers are wimpy and tinny. Louder would make up for tinny but both make it useless in a room with any other sounds going on.

The good really suffocates the bad with this laptop. I have used this to work for hours a day and I never notice any short comings in performance. It really is a great workstation with multimedia strength. At the price paid, this unit cannot be beat IMO.

Adequate except for hateful touchpad

Purchased at my local BestBuy about a month ago, as part of a "package" including a soft case, an 8-gig USB drive, a cleaning cloth, and a CD of some antivirus software, for $300 + sales tax. Current price for the same "package" as I type this is about $25 less than what I paid, but it's not stocked in the store--has to be ordered on-line.

Other folks have commented on the hateful touchpad. They're ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. The touchpad stops working often, randomly, and without regard for how little else is making demands on the processor. I've had the touchpad lock-up with nothing running but the preloaded background crap, Comodo antivirus, and a word-processing program or perhaps Thunderbird or Firefox. There is no pattern, no reason for the touchpad to freeze--but it happens maybe five times in an hour. I have enabled the mousekeys on the numerical section of the keyboard, and I have a wireless mouse (Logitech M510) but the touchpad would be my primary use if the damned thing worked worth a crap.

The touchpad software (Elan Smart-Pad) has a nice icon that shows whether either button is pushed, or whether there's one, two, or three fingers on the touchpad. When the touchpad freezes, the icon shows no fingers on the touchpad--as if the touchpad isn't getting a signal from your finger. I don't know if this is faulty software, or faulty hardware.

Other folks have commented on the computer freezing or restarting on it's own. That has happened to me exactly two times in the first month of ownership. Not nearly the aggravation as the touchpad.

There's a heaping pile of useless crap software loaded on the computer. I spent hours attempting to remove it.Read more ›

AMAZING

This is an amazing laptop for school work and for work, I am 14 and I am using it for this early college I am going to, I have 5 operating systems on it, the one it came with and 4 on virtual machines for programming, it is fast for processing but I don't know about the gaming graphics, I have a computer for gaming so this I haven't tested for that and I don't plan to use it for that so if you are looking for a laptop for work/school then this is perfect, It outranks other laptops in this price range for its performance and its space it can hold! I would buy again! Also, the batteries don't cost much, about $12 if yours ever start to lose charge, might have this laptop for 5 years or more because the batteries are cheap in cost. I also already customized how it looks with a custom theme
