What's wrong with this laptop?

I really want to like this laptop. I like the design, but the performance is terrible. It's slow, I mean reeaaallly slow! The mouse pad is most of the time unresponsive, the computer freezes, videos play sound but pictures do not show. I read online that I might need to down load an update of some sort. This is a brand new laptop, I just opened up the box Friday evening. Why should I have install upgrades and software to make it work properly? I am currently using my old laptop to post this review, which at this point is working a heck of a lot better than the brand new one.

Most horrible laptop ever

Not easy to use at all, I own an older Toshiba Satellite laptop, I loved it I've had it for about 5 years, so I thought I'd get a new one. It's the hardest thing to use. the scrolling is so hard I just use the arrows and a wireless mouse. I've been told that it's the windows 8 program that makes it so hard but I find navigating and looking for anything so hard I just give up.

Decent for the price but has issues

I purchased this laptop a little over two years ago from a store. A few months after I purchased this, the screen had two vertical lines going through it that would come and go. This bothered me at first, but I just dealt with it. Toshiba is not the most customer friendly about replacing things. Just today, my hard drive went out. Toshiba is notorious for this issue as they make their own hard drives. I've read that people who are fans of Toshiba's other aspects just replace the hard drive upon purchase. I was quoted $170 to replace the hard drive. This was about half of what I paid for the thing, so I've decided to get something new instead. Other than these issues, it worked really well for me. I mainly used it for legal practice which consists of using One Note, Word, Excel, and Chrome for my research and email. I loved the touch screen feature. It made Windows 8 tolerable. I think I am going to go with a Chromebook this time because the software is much more user friendly than Windows 8.
