This is the "Signature Edition" which Microsoft sells without all the extra software that manufacturer's include. I think it makes a big difference for most laptops but particularly Toshiba - I tried a 14" Satellite last year that just seemed to crawl despite having higher specs than this model. This one does not have that problem.

The great thing with this model is getting a bright full HD display at this price. The viewing angles are great. The RAM and HD are kind of low at 4GB and 500GB, but despite anything you might read, both are upgradeable. The bottom unscrews and then snaps off. There are two memory slots, one is occupied with 4GB. I put a 4GB module in the other one and it took like 5 minutes total. I will eventually replace the HD with an SSD.

Build quality is great. It is kind of strange for a laptop that seems at least somewhat "premium" that the keyboard isn't backlit, but I knew that from the description so it wasn't a surprise. The lack of an optical drive is also clearly spelled out.

This particular line of Satellites (the S55t-B series) isn't all that remarkable for what most of them cost, but this specific model is the exception, and is a great bargain.

Wonderful Computers. I advise everyone. Only it is necessary to replace the hard drive. I recommend to the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B / AM) and add Kingston Technology 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L and will fly like an airplane. I love it more and more.

This is the replacement I had to ask for because the first laptop I recieved was completely unstable. I have no idea what is all over the speaker area. A little irritated that I spent $460 and not one but 2 laptops I have recieved have issues.

This computer is great for what it is. It's a solid laptop that has everything you could ever want... except a SSD, and maybe some more RAM (although it has an empty memory slot just begging to be filled). The processor is pretty solid. The computer doesn't run hot. It's pretty thin, lightweight, and looks sleek. If you just buy a SSD separately, this computer ends up being incredibly cheap for what it is and you end up saving lots of money.

Amongst the Toshiba offerings that have a full HD touch screen and an i5 processor this one is by far the best value in my opinion. This is my second Toshiba (first one was an i3, still perfect after 3 years of 24/7 use) and I believe they make the best laptops. This one has an attractive design, good key board/track pad sensitivity, is very thin, has fairly good volume from the speakers and a really gorgeous display.
Drawbacks? Only 4 Gigs of memory - system shows 72% memory usage most of the time. It's faster than my old i3, but I think an additional 4 Gigs would make it even faster. (Yes there is an open slot according task manager). Text can be quite small on the full HD screen - but some fiddling with text/toolbar/icon size to make it more readable is worth the wonderfully sharp video playback. It does have a 'clicky' right Shift key, but it seems to be smoothing out with use.
I'm very pleased with it and give it 5 stars.

no backlit keyboard, other than that it is pretty good with a good screen and speaker system, it is also very lightweight and other than the lack of a backlight, the keyboard is pretty good, also the ram is alittle low, but i believe it can be upgraded even though the manual says that it can not be upgraded, the signature edition seems just a little cleaner than the other version

The Toshiba Satellite is great from startup to the touchscreen it has it all without bloatware.I was looking for a laptop that would be quick and reasonably priced. By adding 4gbs of ram and a 240ssd to the mix this computer screams.I now use the 500gb harddrive as a storage drive that a can hook it to via usb 3.0. The price was the best I could find for such a machine. It came quick and in good shape from the seller. My only caveat is a Toshiba problem, when it gets an update the mouse on the touchpad will stop working. Then you must go into device manager and roll back the driver. The driver microsoft installs does not work so it must go back to 2006. Otherwise it works great.

The computer is mostly as described. I will not write much about its niceties as others have done a great job reviewing the computer.

The machine looks slick -- I expect to be distracted by admiration from passerbys when I work on it out in public. The keyboard is adequate – I am getting used to it, a bit like typing in molasses -- nothing like the amazingly responsive keyboard on my cheap and aging 5-year-old ThinkPad that this laptop is supposed to replace. The screen is bright enough and has an OK viewing angle for one person -- perhaps reasonable at this price, I would say. So, for the price this is good.

Now we come to HOWEVERS. The computer I received was _not_ new as stated in the description. It came in resealed packaging -- all original factory tapes were cut and later taped over with the same tape as used by the manufacturer (Toshiba) to look as if box/packaging was pristine. I am guessing that these machines are returns/rejects from Microsoft Store. Therefore, they are in reality refurbished returns that are being passed as new either by MS or by Toshiba -- or by the marketplace sellers. This explains why there are so many reviews that state that the computers were not shipped new, had fingerprints on the screen, etc. It also explains why a few sellers start a new listing for this computer. My computer looks new for all purposes -- except for the re-taping/resealing business. Again, for this price I am willing to suffer a little.

The big ANNOYANCE for me is that the screen has one dead pixel near the middle. I cannot see it unless I am really close to the screen. But it bothers me because I am a perfectionist (having a screen with no defects is reasonable expectation, methinks). I will probably keep the machine in spite of this.
