Probably the best value Windows Tablet Convertible in this price range

I have several Windows Tablets in the household including the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, the original Microsoft Surface RT, Acer Iconia W8, and others. The ASUS Transformer Book T200 is slowly becoming my favorite. It combines a pretty nice tablet with a pretty nice keyboard. It provides enough processing power to handle typical laptop uses such as word processing, music, web browsing, and videos. It also has a long battery life. After using the T200 for a week, here are my quick thoughts on the pros and cons of the device:

Pros
=================================
- 64 bit processor and 4GB of ram, better than many of the other cheap Windows Tablets and Convertibles
- Functions as either a Windows Tablet or a laptop
- Includes a nice keyboard dock for this price range
- Has a large multi-touch trackpad that includes gesture support
- Has an easily accessible hard drive expansion bay
- Dual-band Wi-Fi
- Micro HDMI port
- USB 3.0 Port
- An actual LAN port!
- Long battery life (Amazon says 8.5hrs, B&H says 10.4 hours!)
- Offers a greater value over iPads and Android tablets, depending on how you plan to use it
- Nice Asus extras such as cloud storage and Accidental Damage Protection

Cons

- Bulky for a tablet, heavy for an 11 inch laptop
- Not the greatest screen resolution (1366x768)
- Large bezel around the screen
- Power button, Windows Button, and volume buttons are on the back of the tablet
- No 3G/4G support on this model
- To active stylus support
- Only 39GB of its 64GB is available (before I applied any software updates)
- Microsoft Office not included for free, unlike other models

Excellent sub-$500 2 in 1 Windows Tablet/Notebook

The ASUS T200TA-C1 is an excellent sub-$500 2 in 1 Windows Tablet/Notebook

I purchased the T200TA-C1 2 in 1 simply because I wanted a Windows tablet to play with and I wanted something with a screen a bit larger than my wife's T100TA (10.1 inch screen). While there are larger screen 2 in 1 units, they are somewhat bulky and I feel this size screen works best for me.

Rather than re-state that which has been said in some of the previous reviews, I'd like to point out some of the features that I believe set the ASUS T200TA-C1 apart from many of the other sub-$500 2 in 1s. First, I would like to note that some of the "cons" listed here in other reviews are "cons" for most, if not all, of the sub-$500 units: RAM size (in this case 4 GB) that is not upgrade-able, internal storage (64 GB) that is not upgrade-able, and others, so I won't re-hash them either.

The obvious:

The larger screen size also allows for a larger keyboard module. It can not be overstated that the close to full sized keyboard is simply easier to adjust to.

Separate charging port. You are not using one of the USB ports for charging and will not have to disconnect something from that port while charging.

The Hard Drive bay in the keyboard dock allows you to increase the internal storage to "up to 1 TB" according to ASUS. It is unknown whether the limit of 1 TB is simply because that is the largest (physical size, 7mm) that currently fits the bay. Also, you can put a SSD in this bay.

It has one USB 3.0 port. If one has a USB 3.0 peripheral, such as a Blu-ray/DVD drive, they may appreciate this faster speed port.

Great laptop replacement

Have had my T200TA-C1-BL for a week now (purchased from another vender, it was a bit less $ than Amazon at the time).
Have a T100TA-64Gb, a HP G7-2233cl 17" laptop that I can compare it to.

Overall the T200TA is very responsive, the keyboard is larger than the T100's and close to the HP laptop's (which is larger due to the numeric keypad area). Runs what I need it to do (Firefox, Chrome,Thunderbird email, Office 2013,VLC media player, Kindle reader) with no issues.
A bit bulkier and heavier than the T100 but much easier to sit on the sofa with than the 17" laptop.
Dual-band wifi (2.4Ghz & 5Ghz bands) works fine.
HD graphics are fine, if you have to have "full 1080p HD" then you'd want to look at a different tablet. I have no video quality issues watching movies on the T200TA.

One of the first reviewers noted that "full size" 2.5" HDD or SSD drives don't fit in the keyboard dock expansion bay, only newer 7mm thick drives. Not true, I was able to use an older crucial M4 64Gb SSD by just not using the drive mounting bracket (though put the screws back into the holes as they help hold the dock together). SSD fits a bit snugly but works fine.
NOTE: you should use the "Safely Remove Hardware & Eject Media" function located in your system tray BEFORE you remove the tablet from the dock while it's running. I do just to be safe as Windows sees the keyboard dock drive as a USB external drive.

I don't use it more than 3 hrs at a time usually and have 75% of the battery left each time so I'd say 7-8 hrs would be what to expect between charges.Read more ›
