My affair with Asus lasts for over 6 years and it never lets me down :)

I bought it through Microsoft's store because they offered a great deal with $100 discount
This is a sturdy and good looking convertible laptop that carrys powerful Intel core i5 and 8 GB of RAM. Perfect for people who need enough power in order to work on the go. I bought this to replace Dell Lattitude E6540, because it was so heavy to carry around, I was getting pain in my back. I plan to install Ubuntu as a second OS, that way I will have pretty solid Unix station for half of the price of Mac Book pro.
By far I was able to install Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition, it does take some time to launch due to 5400 rpm hard drive, but once it is running I get pretty smooth experience, C++ programs compile pretty fast. I have no issues with browsing and watching movies as well, I am enjoying HD movies on Netflix. I was able to download and play game or two from App Store as well, nothing fancy ofc, but good enough to kill some time.
Even though many reviews mention that this convertible laptop is too heavy to use in tablet mode - I find myself using it in tablet mode pretty often. Tablet mode is very convenient for browsing web or Netflix in bed. I also enjoy using it in portrait mode, since the screen is 16x9 you can fit a pdf book and browser on the screen in portrait mode, very convenient. I do not use tent mode, because it does just about same as stand mode, yet stand mode seem to be safer.

Suggestions:
1. Avoid using App Store apps because they designed for smaller screens, such as Windows 8 tablets and phones, so they take whole screen and can not be re-sized. I just go ahead and download traditional desktop version of everything.

Very good and versatile computer

I did a lot of research to find a computer for my girlfriend who was upgrading from a Asus netbook that had served her well for a number of years. From the standpoint of price and performance, I picked this one. When it came, I was impressed with how sturdy it felt while still being thin and light. The screen is very sharp and bright (if you disable adaptive brightness in the advanced settings of the power options control panel). After playing with it for a while, I bought one for myself.

The only major issues I have with the TP300LA had nothing to with the laptop and everything to do with the Windows 8.1 interface. These issues can mostly be overcome by installing a free program called Classic Shell. Battery life is very good. Starting with a full charge, I watched a 2.5 hour movie on a flight and the battery was at 69%.

A couple of minor issues:
- The keyboard is not backlit. Asus makes this same basic model (Asus Q302LA-BBI5T14) with a lower screen resolution (1366 x 768) to sell at Best Buy (also available on Amazon) and it has a backlit keyboard. Its confusing why they didn't include it in this one.
- The power button is on the left side toward the front rather than on top near where the keyboard is. At first, I hit it several times a day and it would power down the laptop causing a lot of frustration. My workaround is to have the power button put the machine to sleep rather than turn it off. I know why it was placed there. In tablet mode it would be hard to avoid pressing it if it were adjacent to the keyboard.
- This machine does not recognize new WiFi networks after coming out of hibernation. I have to reboot and it will work fine after that. For most, this won't be an issue. I travel with work and need to switch connections often. The good news is that a reboot takes under a minute unless Windows is updating something.

Not only does it work great, but I was also able to upgrade it to windows 10 which I like. I don't use it too much in tablet mode, but it's a cool feature that I like to use when I can. I haven't had it for too long, but I have no complaints so for.

I really love this laptop! I have been searching over and over to find a right laptop for me, and this was found! The laptop is light and portable! I really like the part where I can turn the screen 360 degrees, plus it is touch screen!!
