I bought this charger for my new Dell Inspiron 17, Series 5000. When thee charger is connected the computer displays a message that I should connect the correct charger. The computer does not recognize this as the correct charger.

I have an Alienware m17x laptop. The cord does run the computer so I've decided to keep the cord. It just doesn't do what I needed it for. My computer needs to be reset back to factory standards and programs reinstalled. I thought when I bought this cord I could get this done. I get the message saying I need to use the original adaptor that came with computer or a 240 watt adaptor. I can't do any resets with an insufficient plug.

not compatible for Alienware m17 as stated

I run an Alienware m17. With this ...thing...attached I get a pop up that this is not a compliant device nearly every 5 minutes. When connected the computer struggled to function. This is clearly not a compatible power supply as promised.
