Light and powerful

I've had this for about 3 months, and it's been great. Under 2cm thick, with an i5, 8GB of RAM, and a good number of ports including HDMI and SD card. I think the reviewer with the bad keyboard got a lemon. The screen is beautiful and the backlit keys are nice. Occasionally disconnected at first, but updating NIC driver solved it. Otherwise no issues. Overall, a sweet laptop.

GET THIS LAPTOP PRONTO! You wont regret it. I spent a LOT of time on researching laptops before i got this bad boy and i've loved every second of it. The other laptops I was looking at were:

-Lenovo Thinkpad (the one with a hot swapable battery)
-Lenovo Carbon (new model)
-Lenovo Yoga & Flex
-Dell XPS 2015
-HP Spectre 2015

Now, i spent probably 70+ hours researching laptops until my eyeballs were bleeding every night after work from staring at a computer screen for so long but those hours were well spent and i'm happy with my decision. I'll tell you why...

TOUCHSCREEN: I wasn't originally looking or a laptop with a touchscreen but i'm sure happy i got one with it. I use it more than i ever thought i would. It's just so much more interactive and sometimes simpler to zoom with your fingers than it is with the pad. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least. The screen quality is also great. I have a 15" laptop from 2012 but i use this one because the sharpness of words on here makes it easier on my eyes even though it's a smaller screen.

BATTERY LIFE: Is pretty solid. If i configured it a little more i'm sure i could hit 8 - 9 hours but i let it do it's thing. I easily get through a whole day without much effort with minimum to moderate use. Web browsing, emails, microsoft word, youtube... nothing intense. I check the battery life out of curiosity more than i do out of worrying. I do wonder what 12+ of battery life would be like at times but honestly this does the job and then some. It charges at a decent rate, i don't know the exact time, but i can charge the whole computer from 10 - 100% in about 1.5 hours or less.

KEYBOARD: it's strange to say that typing on this keyboard feels satisfying.Read more ›

Just so you know, I don't give 5 star reviews unless the product is perfect. This laptop is close, and I would only think of taking a star away fro the touchpad, but couldnt bring myself to do it since it may just be my smaller hands. Also a matte cover may help me.

I did a lot of research to select this particular laptop, so I was not surprised to be very content with the product. I use it for work (heavy on excel), photo editing in Lightroom and a little bit of photoshop, sporadic video editing and lots of web surfing with a hint of skype.
If you need a light-weight, reasonably fast and good value laptop, this is one of the best out there. I chose it over the Dell XPS13 mainly because of the memory (4gb in the Dell, not upgradable) and the slight price difference. I also considered the UX305, but I could not bring myself to content with an Intel M processor.

I originally wanted the ASUS laptop with a non-touch 1080p screen, but this version was on sale that day at the same price. I thought I did not need the touch-screen, and probably you do not NEED it, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how useful it is and how much more efficient it is vs. using the trackpad. Touchscreen is like a DVR, once you try it you cant go without it, believe me!

Thanks to the SSD, the startup time is ridiculously fast. Mine starts up in about 5 seconds, which is a huge plus as you do not need to hibernate or sleep your laptop, you can just turn it off and on, that way you conserve even more battery.
It's really a trade-off between the glossy touch or a matte non-touch.Read more ›

Really disappointed by the quality of the QHD panel

I bought this to serve as a lightweight travel-friendly laptop. Immediately after unpacking the laptop, I was irked to see advertising materials plastered all over the screen. These materials consisted of a sticker, (yes, an actual sticker glued directly to the screen), and a small vinyl decal that was resistant to every type of tape that I used to try and lift it off. I finally managed to wedge a slip of paper between it and the screen that enabled me to lift it enough to pull it off. For a moment, it seemed like a fingernail was my only option but that was obviously a last resort. Fortunately, it didn't have to come down to that.

Once I was finally ready to actually use the machine, I powered it on and was immediately disappointed. There was noticeable light bleeding almost on several edges, particularly strong along the bottom and top edges. Thankfully, there were no dead or stuck pixels. The viewing angle is much narrower than I expected. Several reviewers raved about how great the screen was and how wide the viewing angle is. This is quite possibly the worst IPS screen I've ever owned. In fact, I honestly wonder if it really is an IPS panel. The attributes just aren't there, particularly the viewing angle. As soon as I move slightly right or left, the screen becomes washed-out immediately. The specs may say it's IPS but it certainly doesn't have the same quality as my other IPS screens. On the plus side, it is very sharp, as it should be QHD resolution. If the resolution was fuzzy, that would have been the final straw. Yes, it is sharp and fonts, edges and borders are much sharper and more vivid than my 1920x1080 resolution on my Elitebook. To be fair, the Elitebook has a matte screen, which tend to be a tad bit more grainy.Read more ›
