Works great with Dell N5010 but not a perfect match with the cosmetic design.

Works with Dell Inspiron 15r model n5010.

Was a little worried at first when I initially tested it to see if it would fit (did not have the HDD in the caddy at the time, was just testing the fit). If didn't slide in and I assumed I would have to return it. Then I realized the screws on the side of the caddy were sticking out. Once I tightened those in, I tried again and it slid right in.

The design of the caddy is not a perfect match with the design of the N5010. It fits with the hardware, but it's not a cosmetic fit. However, it doesn't look totally atroious either. I'll attach a pic.

I'll give it five stars. It works great and fits. The cosmetics is off, but the product description never claims that it's for the N5010, so that's on me (I knew that was a risk). But considering it's half the price of the caddys that do match perfectly with the N5010, I'm willing to overlook that and so should you.

Works amazingly with my insipron n7110. It has a red and blue led activity-indicator which is certainly fun to look at haha.

If you are using it as a slave drive (just for storage with no OS installed) then check for a small white switch just inside the caddy where the 2.5 inch drive would be inserted. It came as master by default, Windows 7 won't shut down since it was on master mode, once it was switched it to slave it worked perfectly.

4 stars because the included screwdriver was of the worst possible quality, it broke and the screws destroyed the tip thus making it useless, it certainly is the most weak kind of metal. It would be a nice gesture if it worked but consider adding useful accessories or none at all.

Excellent storage expansion with no HDD/SSD speed loss.

Works perfectly in both my Asus G53SW and Acer Aspire V3-772G.

Tested with ATTO hard drive benchmarker. My sata II and sata III drives showed the exact same benchmark speeds when in this caddy as in the sata II and sata III hdd ports. Does not bottleneck or throttle down hdd/ssd speeds as I originally feared.

The faceplate on both my laptops came stick nicely into the slots. Although there is no screw to hold the caddy in place like there is on optical drives, it stays in securely.

A+ product. Fast amazon shipping. Expanded my laptops storage capacity by 1TB which is excellent when running off of limited space 250gb SSD's.

Other Thoughts*
If your worried about losing your optical drive, don't worry. Unless you need it for work or something like that, just about every driver, and OS installation can be on a usb or external drive nowadays. You can always download PowerISO (free unregistered) and it will read and mount any ISO(virtualized CD/DVD) file which can be downloaded now instead of DVD's. Just mount the ISO and install like you would a CD/DVD.

Perfect way to add more storage to Acer 5742G. Remove the faceplate from your optical drive and it is a perfect cosmetic match.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I upgraded the regular HDD on my laptop to a SSD. I still wanted the extra storage space since SSDs are good for running programs but not recommended for use as main storage devices yet. I haven't used my optical drive in a long time so I doubt I will miss it. It was pretty easy to install. Just remove the ODD, put the HDD in the caddy, tighten the screws and the done. Performance is not an issue here since there is just a straight connection to the SATA drive, no circuits involved. The speed is only limited but the speed your SATA port supports. If you want the drive to match your laptop just take off the faceplate from your optical drive and put it on this caddy. That is what I did with mine and it looks perfect! At least on my laptop if I ever needed to use the optical drive again this makes it very easy to swap out again.
