Starting some years ago as a roller case for a 15.4 laptop, this bag offers great design, engineering and construction quality for a decent price. Most importantly - it has more than adequate padding all around for computer protection. Using it with a 15.4" laptop - it has a separate case within a case for the utmost protection and have used this combination for many years.

Zippers are well constructed and self repairing. Openings are generously wide - accommodating my 17" plastic cover laptop without any danger of scratching; compartments for any and all types of accessories abound, with nets, dividers, partitions. Wheels are great for smooth rolling - a case carry handle for lifting in and out of tight places like car trunks and overhead airplane bins. It has a front bottom rest that allows a fully loaded bag to not topple over.

When I purchased a 17" laptop for extended use on the road, I was under the impression this case would not take a 17" laptop, purchased a series of 17" cases from brand name vendors but have never found another 17" roller case that offered the protection, or carrying capacity for accessories this one did. By simply removing the inner 15.4" laptop case - my 17" HP has found a new home. Still well protected without the case the insert - this bag has space for external hard drives, power bricks, point and shoot cameras, power strips, CD/DVDs including my favorite DVD movies and thumb drives - with room left over in a top zippered compartment for car keys, pocket change, rings, watches and anything else you need to remove before going through airport security.

I've gone through four Wenger Swiss rolling laptop bags in 5 years. I kept buying them because they look so great and have all the handy pockets and compartments that I love, plus they make them big enough for my 17" laptops, but they just never hold up for me. A wheel came off on my first one; the second bag came apart at a seam; one of the wheels on the third bag simply stopped working -- it went from a loud squeak/squeal noise to staying firmly locked in place; and on the fourth and last Wenger bag I will ever buy the handle won't go down unless you press the two little silver buttons within either side of the handle as you push down on it.

I'm not super rough on my laptop bags. I take it to my office each day and back and travel with it occasionally. I don't hike with it, pull it behind my car or motorcycle, nor do I pull it over rough terrain. I've had this Potomac laptop bag since June 2010, so it lasted a year before the handle started giving me problems. Fortunately, more manufacturers are now making bags that fit the 17" laptops, so I no longer see any logic in spending more than $100 on a bag if it's only going to last a year to 18 months. Then to utilize the warranty, you'll have to get a new bag because you're going to have to send the malfunctioning bag in for inspection. If they send me a new one, fine, but I won't be buying another Wenger bag.

This bag has been a good one for me for 10 months now. However, after only 10 months of use 3x per week on average (I work from home many days), the wheels have worn out. And, although I was attracted to the case because of its "Lifetime Warranty", when you try to figure out how to exercise the warranty, it is unclear what to do, and it appears that you must ship your bag back to an address with no promise that Wenger will actually fix the bag. Overall, a mixed but ultimately disappointing ownership experience. Something with a "Lifetime Warranty" should have wheels that last longer than 10 months!

I live in the Boston area and ditched my car to use the T as my primary mode of transportation. I teach in a few different places so I needed a bag that could hold all my books and papers and could handle my varied commute. This one lasted through the HORRENDOUS winter that we had here in Boston and through all kinds of terrain: smooth and bumpy sidewalks, walkways covered by slabs of ice, and whatever else you might find in the city.

My main concern was the wheels. I had used 2 regular carry-on suitcases in the fall semester and the wheels wore out of both of them before Thanksgiving! This Wenger Potomac made it all the way through a Boston winter and the entire spring before one of the wheels popped completely off.

One luggage repairman said he'd never seen a wheel like it before and couldn't fix it. Another luggage repairman said he'd order the parts and would charge me $50-$60 bucks to do the work!

Also, the extended handle had a slight malfunction with the button that is supposed to allow you to push the handle back down.

I still love the bag . . . just wish replacing the wheels wasn't such an ordeal because the rest of the bag is in great condition (the retracting handle is still usable with some manipulation).

Excellent bag that fits under airplane seats or in overhead bins on commuter jets or larger planes. I'm on the road 3-4 days a week and this can get my by if I carry my laptop in the briefcase and use all the compartments for clothes.

If you need to bring more shoes, you might need to move up to the larger model though. As a woman, I can wear sneakers and there's only room for one pair of heels.
