VERY good laptop for everyday work.

I have read a lot of negative reviews about this laptop here and all I can say is that either computer illiterate people are buying these or people are not reading the specs before ordering.

This laptop is just as I ordered. It is a VERY NICE laptop. Setup took about a half an hour. It was very simple. I ordered this laptop KNOWING that it did NOT come with a optical drive. Seeing as though external drives are cheap enough that did not bother me a bit.

My first Windows update took about 2 hours (NO big deal) and went smoothly. I got the Windows 10 update icon on the taskbar and reserved my FREE update.

So far (3 days) the laptop is running great. It only took about 2 days to get used to Windows 8.1 (I'm used to Windows 7 and Linux Mint), it's not that bad to figure out and learn.

There is not that much bloatware on this machine and it took only a few minutes to uninstall what I didn't want. Go through the settings and configure the machine the way you want, it's very easy.

The laptop is very quiet. I installed a Staples 4 port USB hub and added a wireless mouse with no problems at all. Plug & play. I installed Firefox as I HATE I.E. and imported my bookmarks with zero problems.

I can recommend this laptop without hesitation. It works great. If you're looking for a high end laptop this is NOT for you. Do your homework and stop complaining because you didn't do any research. READ ALL INFORMATION before you order ANY product so you know what you will get.

If you have questions about the NON optical drive version of this laptop just ask me.

The notebook is absolutely perfect and fast enough for light (student) use however in the question and answer section someone from ASUS was posting a misleading information about this particular laptop, this machine doesn't have CD/DVD player but the representative from ASUS was telling people it comes with one. That is ASUS fault not the sellers since they didn't post it as if it's equipped with one.

Standard Performance but Flawed Hardware

I bought my laptop from Asus brand new on Amazon.

It gets the job done. I bought this for quick web browsing, light gaming, and college coursework. This was in my price range of $270. I did quite a lot of research and I knew this laptop was going to be fairly basic and if it became problematic it was only 200 or so dollars and I bought the extended warranty. I bought his laptop specifically because I needed the keyboard use, mouse use, and a laptop that was lightweight but could still handle helping me with homework. I have a desktop so I wasn't too heavily reliant on this laptop.

Initial Concerns:
1) I have used a wireless mouse since I unboxed the laptop however the trackpad has stopped working and its only been a week so I don't see why the trackpad would stop working. I am very disappointed in the quality of this laptop's trackpad. I expected more from Asus.

2) The screen will occasionally flicker back and forth from a blue hue to its standard colors.It doesn't really impair with any of my work and it happens very rarely so I choose to ignore it assuming its a glitch of some sort.

3) My laptop did not come with a restore disk as my laptop does not have a cd/dvd drive. You have to use your own USB drive to download the System Restore information in case one day the worse happens and you need to restore your laptop. I bought a 16 GB flash drive not knowing how much I would need to use for the system restore. It used up 11 GB out of my entire flash drive. Once you create that Recovery Flash Drive you cannot use it for any other purpose so be sure to use one you won't need in the future.Read more ›

Fits My Needs Perfectly

After owning a Samsung Galaxy tablet for 5 years, I realized that for Hard-Core work, I needed a dedicated laptop. I own a landscape company and can spend up to 8 hours on the keyboard, doing highly technical quotes and the resulting research necessary to do said quotes. I had seriously looked into buying a Surface Tablet as several of my friends have one but after trying it out and also interviewing my friends with HOW they used it, I again realized that an "Ol' Fashioned" laptop was what would fit MY needs, perfectly. By the way, my friends who are crazy for their Surface are into the video/photography arts, rarely type long emails and do extreme social media followings, none of which I do.

If you own a Kindle and are familar with the very minimal packaging that comes with a Kindle, then you'll not be surprised when you un-box this laptop. It comes in a ho-hum box, is cradled beautifully and swathed in a soft plastic wrap and then there's just the laptop, a lightweight power cord and three tiny booklets. That's it. No Quick Start Guide, no recovery disc, no whistles or big *bangs* of anything, so you are literally getting what you've paid for. The booklets are: 1) Safety Precautions for your battery; 2) ASUS Warranty Booklet with Customer Service Info; and 3) User Manual which simply lays out the design of the laptop, that's it. You're supposed to charge the battery for at least 3 hours prior to going 'unplugged' and it supposedly holds a charge for 6 hours.

This little laptop is PERFECT!!! I don't game, I don't do social media, I stream all videos on my Fire tablet and I'm not going to use the laptop to hook up to the Smart TV that I don't own.
