This Elago L3 stand is a fantastic product: it is strong, light, attractive, and functional. The aluminum construction helps to transfer heat away from the laptop, allowing it to run at a cooler temperature. With a silver color that matches the silver used by Apple, this stand is the perfect companion for the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. I was torn between a few different stands for my r-MacBook Pro, but I am glad that I decided to go with this Elago L3 over others. I highly recommend this product!

WHY I WANTED A STAND
[While this stand can be used with many computers, my specific usage is with two MacBook Pros and since my review discusses my own needs & preferences, some of it will pertain specifically to usage with the MacBook Pro.]

If you own a MacBook Pro, then you are likely aware that they do tend to operate on the hotter side. While not normally a functional concern, sitting a MacBook Pro on an insulated surface (like a leather couch) could result in accelerated wear from abnormally high temperatures. Additionally, the palm rest of the MacBook Pro can get almost uncomfortably hot when under a sustained & intense processor load. So I wanted a stand that, 1) contributes to reducing heat, and 2) I can set both on a hard surface and on a couch. This Elago L3 stand does both very well.

Good stand but not designed for older macbooks

People buy MacBooks for their functionality, design and quality. The same concepts applies to any accessory we buy as well. Unfortunately, the stand only meets 2 of 3, but it’s still not bad.

· Functionality – This is where it falls short. A VGA cord doesn’t fit through the large hole in the back. The older power cable doesn’t fit through the small hole in the back (see customer pictures). Therefore I’m using the big hole for the tiny power cable.

· Design – It raises the macbook to an ideal height (imo) and stays fairly secure in place. There are soft velvet points at the base to keep the macbook from scratching.

· Quality – solid aluminum gives you a rich, firm and robust stand that’s well worth the money if the holes in the back were created to account for other cables.

good stand - some small quality issues

This is a nice stand. It fits my new 13" rMBP well and I type on it probably 2-4 hours per day and consider the height and angle to be perfect. Knocked off 1 star for build quality, and 1 star for over-priced. Build quality is ok. The aluminum is well-shaped but the stamp of manufacturer name and model name, which are both prominently displayed on the top center, had a fingerprint smudge on it, and the rubber pads designed to rest between the top of the stand and the bottom of my rMBP were not positioned correctly and are a bit cheap, causing metal on metal contact. I pulled them off and repositioned, and also added some scotch tape to some of the contact points where I could easily observe the laptop metal was coming in contact with the metal of the stand. Dissapointing. Shouldn't need to re-engineer when it is 12oz of aluminum which priced at $39.99. Only other complaint is the aluminum is a bit brighter and the bead-blasted finish a bit different than the specific shade and finish of Apple products. That's a nit, but if you are expecting it to match your Apple products 100% its not quite there.

Overall though, sitting in the stand and using the stand to type and use my keyboard everyday is a joy. It is, IMO, the perfect angle and height for the keyboard. That's the #1 thing I wanted, and the #2 thing was aluminum matching look, which is close enough. So final thought- very good, but not great, and probably $10 over-priced.

Bring your laptop to eye level with L3 Stand from elago.

Sometimes people don’t think of the little things like accessories to your laptop that can make life better. Accessories take a backseat to your primary devices and you may forget just how important they are in everyday use.

I spend my entire day with my laptop. Last year, I began having shoulder and neck problems due to the angle at which my laptop was sitting on my desk. I was constantly adjusting myself in weird ways to alleviate the pain while I was sitting behind my desk for hours on end. To help reduce the amount of pain I was in, my doctor suggested adjust my laptop height. I started looking for a good stand – something that would both elevate the screen so it was closer to eye level and allow me to use the built-in keyboard and track pad of the MacBook Pro.

With so many companies making laptop stands you would think I would have found something pretty quickly, but I’ve either not found one that has design and function I desire or I’m just too picky.
