A great Cooling Pad!

This laptop cooler has a great big fan, sturdy base, and easy. It does have a 4 hub port. BUT if you use it, only use it for charging small items, like your iPod. If you plug your external hard drive up to it you will need to make sure that you unplug it every time you turn off your laptop. The cooling pad USB Hub does not gently turn off our external hard drive correctly. Lost everything on it. However, knowing that I think this is a great cooling pad and the hub makes it easy to plug in your small things like phones and iPods as well as a mouse and keyboard. So I recommend this product.

"You get what you pay for."

I really think this is more of a 1-star product, but I tacked on another one because hey, it was only $10, and maybe I should have known better.

This cooling pad has a neat blue LED, and it turns on. There's not a whole lot more I can say for it. If you're running something that isn't very intensive, it'll probably keep your laptop at a fairly neutral temperature. While playing Guild Wars 2, a game that gets my system going pretty hot, if it made any difference, it was minor. The fan in this thing does not churn very quickly, and for the most part, only keeps itself at a cool temp. Anyone who has a laptop that generates a good deal of heat knows that you need more than just a cool surface to regulate the temperature.

The title claims that this is designed for laptops up to 17", but I think it really shouldn't be used for anything over 13". I have a 15.6 " Lenovo and it sits on this thing really awkwardly, and is definitely wider than the cooling pad.. The tabs at the bottom don't actually reach up far enough to hold the laptop in place, so if you have something with built-in feet on the bottom, you'll probably experience the same thing.

Most cooling pads generate some kind of noise, but this one in particular has a pretty obnoxious clicking noise. If you've got the sound turned up, you may not notice it, but sometimes I need to mute my system, and the rhythmic tack-tack-tack is enough to get on my nerves, as well as anyone else in the room.

On the USB connection, there is an adapter hub on the other side, so you don't lose a USB space. You would think this would be a thoughtful addition, but I quickly discovered that I wished it weren't there.Read more ›

I've seen laptop cooling fans and pads around for years and have considered getting one, but never got around to buying one, so I was really happy to order this iDeaUSA USB powered cooling pad. What a great deal for under $10! This pad is sturdily constructed and I like that the wedge shape is also good ergonomically by placing my laptop at a comfortable angle. It has a built in USB cord which easily plugs into my laptop to activate the fan. I am amazed at how quiet this fan is - if I really try hard and turn off anything that makes any noise I can hear a tiny bit of white noise, but if there is any other background noise from the TV or people talking, I can't even tell that this is turned on. Well I say I can't tell in terms of sound, but I definitely can from the cooling that the fan provides. My laptop does tend to get quite hot on the underside, and this really helps to keep this under control, which is good both for my lap and the electronics! In fact it feels so much better to use my laptop literally on my lap when I use this iDeaUSA cooling pad. I can even feel just a slight bit of the cooling breeze on my legs, which I find to be very soothing. The whole piece is extremely lightweight and compact enough to fit into my laptop bag or backpack.

Good iDea, but needs better execution

Up to 17" is very subjective. Would I place my 17" laptop on it? No. I don't feel that it is wide enough, or sturdy enough, to support it. That said- my laptop will fit on it, with a substantial portion hanging over the sides. I'd generally only recommend this for smaller laptops.

The cooling pad is nicely designed, I will admit. I enjoy the look and style of it. I wouldn't go so far as to call this a "heavy duty" pad as the edges of the plastic seem fairly standard, but the interior (the meshed looking area where the fan is sitting) is fairly sturdy.

When plugged in you do have the advantage of having that port still "open" as this does include the USB port. That was a nice touch. Another nice touch is the light on the fan. Unfortunately, the light is the biggest indicator that the fan is working. The fan itself is not strong. I can place my hand directly above it on the pad and barely feel the air being moved.

A smaller laptop that is doing nothing but maybe running facebook should work well with this cooling pad. Anything more intensive- or intensive at all- will quickly outstrip the small amount of cooling this pad will provide you. If the fan issues were fixed, I'd give this another star, and if the sizing was actually large enough to support a 17" laptop, it would also deserve another star.

However, with those flaws, I must leave a 3 star review. A sample was provided to me free of charge in exchange for my unbiased review.
