Simple cooler, lot of fan variable fan speed but not for all laptop

Please check my video for the full review, but here's summary:

- In automatic mode, 10 fan speeds: Kick in at 36C
- In manual mode, you have 5 fan speed control
- Comes with a few silicon lips that will cover laptop vent.
- Keep in mind that depends on where your laptop air outlet is, this might not work well for you. Especially with laptop that has air outlet in the back where tilting screen might get in the way.

It Works!

If you have a laptop that winds up and makes a lot of fan noise while working hard, this should solve that noise problem. It only works on laptops with side vents (it will NOT work on Apple products). The fastest way to tell if your laptop is a candidate - once your laptop starts making loud fan noises put your hand near the slots in the side or rear of your computer. If you feel heat on your hand, this thing will work.

This fan isn't pretty, it isn't elegant, and it unsettles your laptop - but doggone it, the thing cools off my laptop - it really works.

I have a big honking Sony Vaio laptop that screams any time I play video games or watch a movie. The little tiny fan inside the laptop has a nasty high pitched whine and the laptop makes a lot of noise.

I hooked this thing up and after a bit of messing around (mostly to figure out how to use the fan), my laptop actually got quiet and did not strain.

The instructions are a little weird, maybe not the greatest. Basically, this thing sits next to your laptop vent and sucks more air through the cooling system buried inside your laptop. The fan is bigger and moves a lot more air, so it cools off your computer. The theory is right on the money. In practice it works very well.

There are four different silicone inserts. If you look at them from the back side, you'll notice they have a different size opening - from small to huge. Look at the vents on your laptop. Try to match up the silicone part to the vent size. It isn't really important that you get it perfect - err on too large (the blue one is the largest). No slip the adapter on to the inlet side of the fan. There is a plastic plate that hooks into two blue tabs on the bottom of the fan. The fan is now ready to install.Read more ›

Fan-tastic

I was using a cooler that was positioned at the bottom back of my G72 17" laptop, that worked except when the CPU was at 100%, like when encoding video. Nothing else worked, like BIOS settings or other fan settings. But that cooler's bearings eventually went out, and got too noisy to use. Without a cooler, the laptop would shut down after 30 minutes of light usage.
Couldn't find a similar cooler, so tried this one, since someone else said it fit on his G72. It works extremely well, and I use it with an unpowered USB hub. Automatic mode works great, and is very quiet, usually at the #1 or #2 setting. Now it can run all day at 100% cpu, automatically adjusting to level 3 or 4. I tried the two largest air flow adapters, made of soft silicone, and they both seem to work equally well. There are two smaller adapters, too.

First things first: u-Box for some reason grouped the reviews for the mini vacuum with the larger one with the LED display (roughly twice the price). I purchased the mini vacuum because I didn't need an automatic feature, nor did I want to pay for a fancy thermometer.

I have a hefty 17" laptop with specs that really should test how effective this is - it comes with a i7 4700mq and dedicated GT 740M graphics that put out quite a bit of heat.

I set the system up and ran Borderlands 2, which should put out quite a bit of heat. Using CPUID HW Monitor, I noticed that without the fan, it maxed out at around 83 and had a constant value between 68-73C. With the fan on full blast, it dropped to around 68C with a max of 82.

It seems to help dissipate some of the heat, but not significantly. I wouldn't drop a lot of money on the more expensive edition unless the vacuum was more powerful, but otherwise it does an alright job.

Sound is there but not that loud. A little higher pitched and slightly louder than my laptop's fan (which I consider to be quite quiet), but besides that I don't notice it after a while.

great for what it is

My laptop gets too hot for me to keep it on my lap. I was suing an empty cardborard 30 egg egg tray at home but on the trip overseas, I left the egg tray at home. I bought a metal rack that goes in the sink and that helped keep the laptop off my legs but I got worried the laptop would overheat. So I went online and read many reviews. For the price, this fit the bill. I use it at home now instead of the egg trays. Keeps the laptop nice and cool. It isnt good for on your lap as this fan needs to sit on a flat surface. If you get a thin piece of wood the size of the laptop and then about 6 inches longer, you can use this on the wood on your lap.
Great item. Quiet too. No need to purchase super expensive ones. However, if you have a laptop that isnt just running hot but overheats, then dont buy this. Take your laptop to a technician and get it repaired before you burn it out and lose everything.
