Ameet Soni

Ph.D. Candidate, Computer Sciences

I am a graduate student in the Department of Computer Sciences and Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics at the University of Wisconsin. Originally from Sterling Heights, Michigan, I attended the University of Michigan for my undergraduate education, where I obtained a B.S. in Computer Science in addition to a minor in Biology.

I am a member of the Machine Learning Research Group where I am advised by Professor Jude Shavlik. My research focus is the application of machine learning techniques to problems in biology and medicine. I am currently a Research Assitant working on ACMI, a collection of probabilistic techniques for determing protein structures in electron-density maps (3D images). This work is done in collaboration with the Phillips Lab in the Department of Biochemistry here at the University of Wisconsin.
