movie

Hi movie lovers,

I saw Eisenstein's Pachomkin in Budapest, it was great. It was made in the 20s,
but still has some impact today. If I remmeber well,
Eisenstein also made "Ivan the terrible"
(several parts), which is also very famous, but I never succeded to see this.
Has anyone seen this ?

"To live" is a very nice movie. Cung Loi (probably the most famous female actor
in China) played a memorable role about a chinese woman, who suffered almost
every possible tragedy on her family. A few older chinese did cry after
the movie when I was there. Some chinese students told me that it was banned
for a while in China.

Recently Dang Nhat Minh made "Thuong Nho Dong Que", which received on of the
main prizes at the latest Lien Hoan Phim in Viet Nam (3 months ago). I saw it at Rap thang Tam, which was crowded at the time.
The movie obtains considerable international attention. It was showed here
at a seminar at the south-east asia dept at Yale, and considered on of the best vietnamese movies ever. I hope it will win some prizes abroad, too.
In my opinion, this movie is far way better than all the movies made by Tran Anh Hung.

Best, Van
