Paracels & Spratleys
>Good design idea, but hard to implement.
The computation is easy. With a set of maps with scale 1:100,000
(I'm sure such maps or even better ones are easily available,
or ASEAN can ask the US nicely), one can easily resolve segments of 1 km
(that should be more than sufficient) and feed the position and orientation
of each segment into a programmable calculator. Or one can digitise the
map and let the computer do everything. Failing both, even the use of segments
of the order of 10 km is better than nothing.
The hard part is to get the countries to agree on the principle
and the approximations.
But for Vietnam it should be easier than to have to defend itself
against China.
