Various topics
Dear VNSA-L participants,
It seems that my email connection to vnsa-l has been re-established. I'd
like to make some comments on various topics that were posted in the
last month.
1. Bu'n Bo` : I wonder why bun bo, a very hot soup is originated in
Hue, and that people from tropical areas such as Malaysia, Thailand,
South India, Vietnam eat more hot (cay) food than those from the more
temperate areas? Could it be that hot food lower the body temperature
and make people feel cooler in hot climate?
BTW I found that bunbo taste better outdoor under colder climate.

2. Names/Pennames/real name/Fake names/Hotmail...
I did not catch this thread from the beginning and therefore may have
missed the main reasons why this discussion began but I see nothing
wrong with people using a pen name for correspondence with others. After
all, Ho chi Minh, Nguyen Ai Quoc, Pham Duy, Vo Phien, To Huu, etc. are not
the real
(given by their parents) names. Am I missing the point here? Why do
people have to use their given names on all occasions? WHat would be
wrong to use a pen name for and reserve the real names for other
occasion?
3. Tha^`y.
Last year, a person died at the Miami international airport as soon as
she passed thru the US customs. An autopsy revealed that she was
carrying 10 kilograms pure heroin sealed in a plastic bag inside her body.
She had had surgery to have the bag put inside her to carry it from
Colombia to the US. The plan was that when she arrived in Miami, she
would then have surgery to remove the drugs. Unfortunately, the plastic bag
ruptured and
she died instantly. People would do anything under desperate situations.
4. Loaning money to private educational institutions.
The only information I gathered in this case is from reading this forum,
therefore my conclusion may be based on incomplete facts. My feelings
are that if they were "truly private", they would need to identify their
"stockholders" . Is it usual to treat educational institutions in
similar manner as temples or churches, as in this case?
Sincerely,
Lam
