It's Mary Hopkin who sang the song and it's Paul who produced it.

After winning the ITV talent show "Oppotunity knocks", Mary Hopkin is spotted by 
model Twiggy, who recommends her to Paul McCartney and he signs her to sing to 
the Beatle's newly-formed Apple label.

The McCartney-produced "Those were the days", written by Gene Raskin and based 
on the melody of the Russian traditional folksong DAROGOI DLIMMOYO, first 
recorded in 1920s by Alexander Wertinsky, launched Apple in the UK alongside the 
Beatle's own "Hey Jude" in 1968.
