Dear all:

Following are my opinions on the GDP and income per capita issues:

1. The GDP figure is only an imperfect measurement for the strength and the
potential of an economy.
Important factors such as enviromental conditions, intellectual potential,
social security, buying power or the amount of peoples leisure time remain
unreflected in GDP figures.

2. Long-term growth cannot be predicted by just a simple mathematical
operation. Growth depends on many factors and will cease as soon as
available resources are exhausted. There is a chance that the income per
capital of people in the top countries might at certain point begin to
decline.
After all, an infinite growth is impossible on our Earth.

3. Income per capita cannot be used to measure peoples' wealth and
happiness. In fact, much much much money and resources have been wasting on
luxury/nonsense, especially in the first world.
The Vietnamese people can live with a modest income per capita if they
don't repeat the mistake others have been making.

One question to experts on the list:
Does a revaluation/devaluation of domestic currency have any effect on the
GDP figure?

Cheers,
