RE: VN Economic Journal

As an economist, I found the ideas of Ba'c Toan, Lam, and Cong
interesting and worth pursuing.
Let me put the list of ideas presented so far:
	1. Publishing a VN economic journal
	2. Translating foreign economic textbook into VN
	3. Bring teaching aids such as software, lecture notes, etc. to VN
	4. Get international or VN government's funding to carry out the above
projects

Please let me add the following projects to the list to be considered:
	5. Collect well-accepted economic text books to send to VN
universities
	6. Encourage economic education by collecting funds and by
establishing scholarships for economic students in VN,
	7. Form a VN economic group consisting of economists in VN and abroad
to exchange economic information, ideas, projects, etc. (I think there
is one such electronic forum already in existence?).
	8. Volunteer to go back to VN to teach economics on a short term
basis.

With constraining resources, we should think about the cost/benefit of
the above projects to establish a priority list before venturing any
further.

PS. Last year, NSF had a program to teach market economics courses in
VN. I saw the funding announcement but did not follow up. Does anyone
have information on the progress of this NSF program?

Hi anh Toan, yes I am in. I am willing to participate in any activities
that can help to bring some economics knowledge that we learn here to
our
Vietnamese student. Especially, I am interesting in translating or at
least prepare a lecture note for an undergaduate course in econometrics.
I also have a few good statistical/econometric softwares that can be
good
instructional means to teach econometrics in Vietnam. So far, as I know,
not many schools teach econometrics in Vietnam. It is a good idea to
develop a different conception about econometrics for our student back
home because it is an intergrated part of market economics.
Regarding the journal, I think we can start it small, then finance
support will come if we have a good working objectives. We can ask for
funding from international organizations or even from our own
governement. The most important thing is to find people who are willing
to participate.
Cheers
