I'm catching up on VNSA Digests after a prolonged spell offline, and I'm
delighted to see Thanh Dang Nguyen express an interest in the works of George
Orwell. He's been one of my two favorite English language writers for the past
10 years. I like his writing not so much for his novels as for his essays and -
memoirs, I guess: Homage to Catalonia, Down & Out in Paris and London (read
that when I started working with homeless people), Burmese Days (To Shoot an
Elephant is a wonderfully nuanced snapshot of British imperialism), Coming Up
For Air...
Thanh, if you or another member are a fan of Orwell... write me back. There
are precious few of us left these days! ;-)))

Subject: George Orwell
Hi folks,
I don't know if Orwell's "Animal Farm" is considered sensitive on
our forum, but I would like to recommend two other great works
in the same vein: Orwell's apocalyptic "1984" (it was made as a
movie, too), and Huxley's even more scary "A Brave New World".
Stunning visions about the modern society!
Happy reading!
