Tennis/Soccer
Hi Long,

I agree with you. In fact, it's her intelligent game that has caught my
interest. Just like Martina Navratilova or Steffi Graf in their best
days. But of course, she still has many things to learn and many tests
to pass before she can become such dominant figures in women's tennis
like the mentioned champion giants. BTW, we can see her in action in two
weeks at Wimbledon.
About Wimbledon: Chris Evert, who is now working as a sports
commentator for NBC, when asked about her tips for this event, replied
that she would pick Graf as a tournament favorite. Not without good
reasons! Steffi has always been superior on grass with her powerful
games; I just wish she didn't make so many unforced errors. BTW, probably
it's time to sadly admit that her days are gone ... It's great to see
that she has overcome uncountable problems (her father's trial, injuries
etc.) to achieve amazing victories in the last few years, but in
sports you need and necessarily have to leave space to rising youngsters.
The men's final finally crowned an unsual French Open this year. An
unknown Brasilian, Kuerten, has achieved a feat even more shocking
that what Majoli did on the women's side. He had knocked out all the
champions of previous four years (Kafelnikov, Muster, and Bruguera) en
route to his unbelievable dream of becoming a champion in Paris. And
this was his first-ever title! The only player who managed to do the
same thing was Wilander in 1982. I do hope that he will become as
successful as the former World No. 1 from Sweden.
That's enuff about tennis in France. Did anybody follow the soccer
tournament also in France? I've heard that the Brasil-Italy match
was very exciting and spectacular with great goals and beautiful soccer
(3-3). It's too bad that I missed it. Soccer in America is quite unpopular.
Cheers,
-Thanh
