[VN Courier 29/6] Overseas Vietnamese may vote in NA elections

Overseas Vietnamese may vote in NA elections

Overseas Vietnamese who return to Vietnam before 7:00 a.m July 19 are
eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming national election of
deputies to the National Assembly scheduled for July 20, says a guidance
of the National Election Council.
The announcement was issued by the Office of the national Assembly on
June 14 in response to queries from a number of cities and provinces on
the issue. It quoted the guidance as saying:
"With regard to those overseas Vietnamese citizens who return to Vietnam
24 hours before the time set for the opening of the poll (before 7:00
a.m. July 19,1997) and who come to the People's Committee of the
commune, ward or town where they temporarily reside, present their
passports which show that they are of Vietnamese nationality, and ask to
have their name written on the list of voters, the People's Committee of
the commune, ward or town concerned will write their name on the list of
voters and issue them voter cards if they are qualified to vote as
stipulated in Article 2 and do not belong to the cases mentioned in
Article 23 of the Law on the Election of Deputies to the National
Assembly."
